Actually, it is possible to write new patches to ROM. Base instructions on a computer are done on the ROM chip. When you flash, or update the computer's bios you are re-writing the code on the ROM. So re-writing ROM isn't the issue. I'm not sure on this but I believe that the OS on the M50 is in ROM ...

Everyone's quest for a 'good grand piano' sound is confusing me. In 40 years of playing I've never heard 2 pianos sound alike. They may be similar, but never exactly alike. Why look for that one sound? Good piano sounds are relative. What I think is good you may hate. I think my old steinway upright ...

Another arpegator question
I'd like to know if the following is possible. I have a sequence of intervals that I'd like to create as an arpeggiation. I'd like the interval sounds to play based on the note used to trigger the arpeggiation. For example, if the sequesnce is W-W-h-W-h-h-W-W. I'd like to be able to press G3 and ...

Search for Portamento in teh Parameter guide. Also, prior to making a change, check out the buttons labeled 1 and 2 above the joystick. I found that sometimes, these buttons already have the portamento adjusted for octave bends. They also have some really cool adjustments to the sounds. The manual ...

Adding keyboard realestate with a midi controller
I just saw this post by Martin Ocando in another thread: I try not to change a sound in the middle of a song. That is why I got a 49 key MIDI controller so I can have more keyboard real state to split my sounds. Does this mean I can add a controller to my setup and assign sounds from a combi to be ...

Creating a sequence and triggering with a key
The song I am trying to set up for is Kyrie, Mr Mister. there is a synth bass line that runs pretty much through the entire song. The pattern of notes is the same, just the chord base changes. What I want to do is create this sequence of notes and trigger it with the base note of each chord. Is this ...

The section you're interested in is page 47 of the manual. this is the section covering Combinations. I would suggest reading this chapter of the book. In particular, on page 48 is a section called Creating Key Splits and Layers. This is what you are looking for. The manual isn't great but after a ...
