It's in Oz, so technically the embargo is over today as it is the 16th here :)

I still think the dealer will get a slap on the wrist though!

TBH, the Montage Mx is still looking like it will be my next after the PA5....if only I can deal with the size and weight hahaha!

This hyped Genos 2 seems a bit underwhelming.

Interesting, Genos2 is not quite the same impact Montage M series (specifically M8x) has been over Montage 1st Generation (iv had both)....

Of course this is only face value and a preliminary overview...

As far as arrangers go, and with all the quirks and gremlins, the PA5x is still top of the heap!

Yes, when it's finished (PA5X),

P.s. have you tried M8x yet?

Hi,
I have watched the Demo by Paul Thirkettle and it is excellent. I don't want to take anything away from Yamaha, they have come up with a great replacement for the original Genos. The sounds are first class and with 800 styles onboard it will surely satisfy any owner. I did notice in particular how good the organ flutes are in conjunction with the leslie sim.

The Genos 2 is going to sell for £5,000 here in the U.K. whereas to buy a 61 note PA5X will currently set you back £3,000. The difference is huge and the Korg is nearer in price to the Yamaha PSR-SX900 which is currently just under £2,000. I would even say that Yamaha are much tighter on pricing than Korg, so I doubt that £5,000 price will reduce much in the foreseeable future.

If anybody finds the time to view the extended Bonners video I posted just above this, It was quite noticeable how often Paul would press a chord of three notes and he and Tony would just sit there listening to the highly impressive arranger take over. Now I know this is the nature of arranger keyboards, but (for me anyway) this seemed to dominate the Demo. I am certain the Genos 2 will be a huge success as Yamaha has a huge army of loyal fans and will surely buy it (even at the eyewatering purchase price).

I don't regret buying my PA5X at all, albeit I didn't get to purchase it from the Dealer I wanted to.
The Genos 2 may well turn out to be better than my PA5X but I don't think I would have been willing to pay another £2,000 for the additional features.

TBH the demo did not give so much.

It,s important IF you make people wait in weeks and pretending like a moon land , then give this demo!

Not much.

Here is my opinion,

I saw the extensive presentation video of one hour length. I think that the 200 extra styles and the few new features are good additions for the yamaha community. It's not the update everyone would expect in my opinion, but it's not bad, it's just an upgraded version of the genos 1 with an extra FM synth engine for the DX7 sounds.

I've read the genos 2 manuals on the yamaha site. It found it shocking that they still use that old YEM program for the programming of the sounds, after 6 years I don't really understand why they don't upgrade that to nowadays standards.

Also it seems that the FM synth engine isn't really available for programming, no access to the operators and just the same basic synth editing as with the sample edits on the yamaha (the ADSR, a limited LFO and access to the Cutoff and Resonance). So it looks like you can only use the supplied presets and modify them on a basic level. Maybe they will add an editor in the future, but for now I couldn't find that info on the yamaha site or in the genos 2 manuals.

I miss the 16 pads matrix, it would be nice if they had added that functionality (It's one of my most used features on the pa5x, with the mute system).

I like the fact that they supply now an midi file to style editor (for free), it looks a little bit like cubase and the way cubase works (with the markers), but this time the CASM block is added automatically in that editor.

The new styles and sounds sound good, there is an large demo where they show a lot of the new styles. Most of them are song specific.
you can find that demo here:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/f8k3Wu7iu ... 2vJypKxqSv" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe>

when I compare the three new main features of the genos 2 to the pa5x I think that the pa5x can do this too (and much more),

1: the style dynamics fader can be done with the limiter tab on the styles on the pa5x
2: the new ambience drums feature of the genos can easily be replicated with the room reverb on the drum channel on the pa5x, this gives even more possibilities because with that pa5x room reverb you can design your complete room characteristics and change the ambience completely to your liking (it's a very powerful effect on the pa5x).
3: the new genos revelation reverb is good quality (I have it in Cubase) but in my opinion the Korg Overb is a better reverb.

For me there is no reason to upgrade the genos 1 in my studio, for me there isn't enough improvement to upgrade.

Style Dynamic we had that 1993 on ROLAND!
The so called STEINBERG REVERB, is like a huge thing in the demo videos, OVErb in Korg is far better!

They are learning us what a Reverb is like its a NEW Thing...

I really hope that KORG can correct all OS issues ad things on it like REDO UNDO , fix a superb MATRIX , let the user create sounds samples and styles from PC/MAC etc, than the KORG will be the Best.

Hi,
As a previous owner of a Tyros 5, I became a Member of PSR Tutorial Forum where I made some good friends. I decided to go over and have a look at what some of their Members thought of the new Genos 2. Quite a few thought the keyboard was great whereas the majority appeared to be underwhelmed with some saying that most of the features could have been added to the Genos 1 as an O/S update. I only saw one Forum member state that he was going to purchase one, (although there were probably more).

You can't add a sound engine and over 10 GB of streaming new samples that raised internal memory capacitance , or USB Audio
& Bluetooth with an OS update ! Just end users ignorance , as in all brands forums !!!

Hi Antony,
I am not that familiar with the Genos arrangers but maybe additional styles could be added similar to when styles were added to the PA5X in version 1.20.

I recently uploaded here 850 Pa4X Styles for Pa5X that required zero extra resources , Genos 2 has a completely updated Sound Library
and worth the upgrade maybe more when compared to Pa4X - Pa5X IMO !

Genos2 looks to be a very nice keyboard...

Did Genos2 make me want to jump out the back of a Hercules airplane to get to it like the new Montage M8x did? No, not really...

My thoughts...... Korg can breathe a little now, but no resting on one's laurels as their is much work to be done (or has almost been done as December approaches) as a window of opportunity is clearly still open for Korg when I consider Genos2...

I hope Korg don't waste it.

P.s. Will I still try one......of course I will, but I don't need to jump out the back of a Hercules to do so now. 8)
