Thanks cello. This one wore me out as usual but turned out to be great fun. The combi used on this one has the category of "Hip Hop" but I think I mangled it into more of a jazz vein with the obligatory Soundworld "treatments."

There are so many others! The "Yellow Frog" gets a groove going that can be quite infectious and I have no fewer than 14 edited variations of "Epic Rock in 7" alone.

All in all, a well spent $32. And I've only used $4 of it so far!

Thanks a lot Dany and Qui. You've got to love it when these KARMA grooves seemingly come out of nowhere to get the old creativity going.

I have gotten so much mileage out of the Catalyst 1 combi collection and will I'm sure get several more tunes from Reincarnated as well. Then there's the one's still untapped and awaiting to be inconspicuously mangled from the original 384, the 96 "Thanksgiving Specials" (a-ha! obviously the early combi work for the Kronos as most if not all of those reside in the K!) and whatever others like the Richard Devine's and others.

There have been so many times when I would think I had already exhausted or had been through all 384 combi's and then a few simple tweaks will inspire you to create a new tune.

If you don't like the way a combi sounds...start mangling! I found it very interesting how some KARMA grooves work extremely well with some chords but not others. Some of those massive 8 note chords can add these little unexpected embellishments or variations in one or more of the KARMA modules that are just delightful. And the way that you can assign different sounds to the pads in so many ways over several MIDI channels is just fantastic.

I used to try to fully explore a combi by finding 10-15 chords that worked really well and then assembling and editing away at the scenes in an order that had plenty of movement, colour and variation. Over time I got lazy and just started using the pads and fewer chords.

Fortunately. I have gone back to the early days and started disecting and mangling away at the combi's until I have them in a good place to construct a full tune out of.

Other times (as Qui's Kronos video's and Programs will attest to) a simple Program with deft KARMA programming can produce a fun tune. Although I had the idea and rough scratch framework for my tune "Brassa Nova" for well over a year, one day I just decided to get down to business on it. It got to #1 in the Bossa Nova sub genre on SoundClick which shows that people can appreciate a fun tune with some infectious hooks regardless of whether or not it comes from "Band in a Box" or not! ;-)

KARMA can just be so powerful and inspiring if you just take the time to get in there and mangle away. It's sad sometimes that so many don't really take the time to fully explore these musical treasures, instead always waiting for and expecting the "next big thing" when the big thing that was is still a mighty powerful beast!

Time to start mangling!!

Mangling indeed! Changed the GE's for the Drum and Bass on the old Epic Rocker and came out with this fun fusion blaster. That Flute Improv GE for the lead guitar is just the duck's nuts! :verycool:

Thanks E! Yeah that "Funkified Bass" GE really jams, not that the original was any slouch, but if you use it on all of the scenes it just gets to sounding too repetitive.

I still need to finish the one I was working on from Catalyst 1 before this one took over, another "hopper" that always reminded me of the late 80's, early 90's pop duo named Everything But The Girl. Seems they took their name from a furniture shop sign in Hull named Turner's which read "For your bedroom needs, we sell everything but the girl."

What a concept!
