Ableton export - panning information

Post by HappyTed »

Does anyone know if the panning for each track is included with the wav export for each part? If this is the case I'm wondering if it'd be better to leave the pan knob alone if planning on an export so that panning can be better adjusted/modulated/automated later in Ableton Live.

Given the fact electribe 2 wav exports are mono (and without MFX btw), I'd say panning is hardly a problem.

I didn't know the exported audio was mono. So you are saying that if you intend to export to ableton there's no point applying effects or panning your parts.

Korg has good reasons why this info isn't exported. You need to work around that. If you can't the E2 is not for you

I think Ableton exports aren't all mono. At least I sure hope not, else it will make any stereo modulation or FX totally useless when exported.

Korg didn't spend more than a few afternoons doing R&D for the E2. There are so many obvious shortcoming and omissions its almost silly. A crippled product.

I edited my first post, since it's the stereo MFX (aka Touchpad FX) that's not exported.

As for panning and mono :

AFAIK, even IFX are mono.
So there's no point exporting stereo files, except for the e2 sampler obviously.

Just sync your e2 with Ableton and record the channel.
It's nice function if you want to pass some loops to friends but personally I would go for recording midi from all 16 channels and later record it. Either run 16 times for each channel separately or once for complete mix.

Yes, I think in hindsight that's the best way to go, but I now have a complete album worth of material so thought it would be easier to use the export function. Pros and cons I suppose. Easy to use export but lose all my pan settings, IFX effects (which make up a big part of the sound) and stereo modulations. Or take time to individually record parts out and keep all of my tinkering intact.

You have to do it in old style. Current DAW using gets us lazy.
One click for export and done, right? Think analog not with digital shortcuts.
More time spend more satisfaction I guess.
