New Kronos X Owner!!!!

Post by Tomdini »

Hi all,

Bought a Kronos X 61 on Black Friday, insanely killer deal, quite pleased..... probably cuz they're about to launch the new one and were looking to liquidate existing stock.

Also, I'm VERY happy I didn't immediately find my new flagship keyboard obsolete with the arrival of the Kronos 2! Korg is a great company for continuing to support the KRONOS platform. I'm really stoked about that. I do like the look of the new boards and am sure they will get many on-the-fence musicians to grab one with the new sounds and aesthetic improvements. I, myself, was simply waiting for a ridiculous sale to come along. 3k+ is just too much for me to justify spending on a keyboard. I've known that I've wanted a Kronos for a couple of years, just had to wait for the stars to align.

Finally got one. Yay!!!!!!

This is my first flagship workstation and my first Korg. I'm very excited to get to work with this phenomenal instrument! I do have lots of experience with the Triton Extreme 88, a keyboard I love dearly, the first one whose stock sounds really impressed me with their fidelity and musicality..... but I didn't actually own it, I just borrowed it on and off for a few years.

I'm a pro keyboardist who plays a lot of everything. My first love is prog rock, however, and currently the Kronos X is the latest addition to my six-board YES rig. I'm raring to dig into programming and customizing this thing!

I would totally have spent the money I saved off the regular price of this Kronos X on libraries for the keyboard, but you can't take 'em with you if I upgrade to a newer Kronos down the line, or have to replace it cuz it unexpectedly blows up, or buy another compatible Korg board in the future.... that kinda bothers me so I'm not sure if I'll end up getting any of them.

Anyway, I look forward to interfacing with you all here. Happy holidays to all!!!!

Welcome from another newbie(ish) Kronos X owner and prog rock fan. I got mine in August.

You must have good chops to play in a Yes band! Do you have a web link for the band? What other boards do you have in your rig?

My original progish stuff can be found in my signature link, and I'm just rejoining the Pink Floyd Tribute act I used to be in, after a lay off of a few years, as I miss playing the music.

I'm busy programming the Kronos to replace all of my rack units (from a gigging perspective anyway) and a PC running NI B4II. Right now the Kronos is proving to be everything I expected of it. It does has its own quirks and irritants, just like my other toys, but it is fast becoming a firm favourite of mine.

Also great that Korg are doing updates for it.

Yes, pretty good chops! The band is called LEGACY. We're not gigging yet, still rehearsing, but I know the band is on Facebook (I am not). We got through "Close to the Edge" for the first time this past Sunday, it sounded amazing! The Kronos provided some key sounds. No idea if any footage or recordings from the rehearsals are on the FB page or not.

I currently have a Roland A-88 as well as an A-80 as bottom boards for a Roland FA-06 and the Kronos X 61, respectively, both of which provide all my sounds. The FA-06 also has an Akai MPK61 top board. I am undecided on my sixth board (top board for the Kronos) at the moment. I do have other boards but they don't bring anything to the table I don't already have at my disposal, and most are too heavy for me to consider giggable anyway (Yamaha S80...), so I'd likely spring for a new piece of kit. I've spotted a really good deal on a Little Phatty and have always wanted a Moog so I might go for it.

To date, I've been using a borrowed Novation Impulse 61 as my sixth board, USB'ed into the Kronos, and have it programmed to control the lower manual drawbars on a B3 so I can have some cool double manual organ stuff going. That's fun but I think an analog synth would be a better addition to the rig. I'll have to give the Impulse back at some point and that is when I'll make a decision. For now I'm still learning the music and digging into the genius of the Kronos!

Sounds interesting. If you have some links then post them.

A Moog of some sort would be good for a Yes Tribute act!

The Kronos is doing pretty much everything I throw at it. At some point I'll post my intro to Shine On.
