How to Connect the Kronos to Logic Pro & Ed Fenner's Vid
I just watched Ed Fenner's:
Korg Kronos audio and MIDI recording to Logic Pro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcC3X_uvnUQ
but was not able to get very far in doing so.
First, I recently got the latest Macbook Pro with Maverick, as well as Logic X. All is running very fast and smooth.
So I downloaded the driver from Kronos:
MAC:Driver:USA_KORG USB-MIDI Driver 1.2.0 (r4).dmg
"Installing the KORG USB-MIDI Driver for Mac OS X
* This driver is for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later."
That went fast and fine, installed it.
Then as the doc said, "connect USB to USB and turn the Kronos on. All done, but now nothing is showing on the Mac. Couldn't find the Kronos in the GB, Logic 9 or Logic 10 or system preferences.
I also installed a Yamaha driver for a Yamaha keys that I recently got. That driver does show up at the bottom of system preferences, though am still awaiting further instructions from Yamaha tech on why is not yet actually recognizing the unit.
But for the Kronos is not even yet recognizing the driver installed correctly.
In Logic 9, was also not able to replicate where this "Audio Midi Setup Utility" screen is. Though I'd prefer to stay out of Logic 9, and stay in the all new, improved and much simplified Logic X Pro.
So where am I going wrong???

Audio Midi Setup Setup is a utility app that comes with the mac. Look in Applications>Utilities to find it.
This lets you test and see what is going on at a deeper level so you know you are getting signals before jumping into a DAW.
You can look at all your audio or midi connections. When you open the midi window you should see the Kronos connected. If not, then you have a driver or connection issue. If you do see it, you can test the setup to make sure that they are communicating. If not, probably driver/connection again - if so, then you can jump into Logic. You will have to create a midi instrument there and point it at the Kronos. Hope that helps.

Re: How to Connect the Kronos to Logic Pro & Ed Fenner's
Hi Ed, first wanted to say that before doing anything else, I tried to hook up both the Yamaha and then the Kronos thru the 1/4" output jacks for each, right into the audio in jack on the Mac. This should have worked but didn't. A while ago I tried going USB to USB from PC to Mac and got nothing, but then using a 1/8" pipeline to the corresponding audio in and out jacks was able to record the backing tracks I wanted right into Garage Band. There's no reason this shouldn't have worked on the keyboards as well. Just simply audio out/audio in, what could be simpler???? Should have worked but didn't.
As to the Kronos set-up, I do note that after installing the drivers, the Korg does show up under the Devices in the finder. Then after I hooked the Kronos to Mac, USB to USB, something else popped up right underneath the Kronos, "EasySuite".
When I go into the Midi app, it's not finding anything. I try to tell it what it is, but no joy. New config, add new device, nothing happening. Why does such stupidly simply thing have to be such a total pain in the ass???
also went into system pref and garage band prefs, nothing there for this either.

Sounds to me like you have something conflicting with your midi flow. I have not idea what "EasySuite" is, but it sure sounds like the culprit.ron@ronniereverb.com wrote:Hi Ed, first wanted to say that before doing anything else, I tried to hook up both the Yamaha and then the Kronos thru the 1/4" output jacks for each, right into the audio in jack on the Mac. The flip side of this coin is that it really IS that easy. I know over a dozen people personally that have loaded the drivers, plugged a USB from the Kronos to their mac and are off and running. If it were me, I would determine what easysuite is, and possible uninstall it and the Yamaha drivers to see if they are causing the problem and work my way from there.

The EasySuite is not now showing in the devices. I've seen that before in my old Mac, don't know what it is or where it's coming from. The Yamaha only shows up at the bottom of System Preferences. The Kronos only shows up under Devices, but neither is showing up under the Midi utility.ed_f wrote:Sounds to me like you have something conflicting with your midi flow. Can you only connect USB to USB or should I also be able to do this thru 1/4" to 1/8" jacks?
I guess I will get with a Apple senior advisor tomorrow to see if they can debut this.
Re: How to Connect the Kronos to Logic Pro & Ed Fenner's
USB to USB is what you want. I don't really follow a lot of the terms you are using. "System Preferences" must be showing yamaha because they install a preference pane to your system. The Kronos will never show up there ( I actually find that kind of invasive).ron@ronniereverb.com wrote:The EasySuite is not now showing in the devices. If you aren't seeing anything in the Audio Midi Setup, your drivers are not current, or are conflicting, or you don't have the Kronos connected properly with the USB.

Re: How to Connect the Kronos to Logic Pro & Ed Fenner's
When I speak of System Preferences, I'm speaking of the Mac OS, the equivalent of control panel in a PC. I just heard from Yamaha who said the driver I had was not for my current Mac, so gave me a new one. After that it now shows up in the Audio Midi utility, but not recognized in garage band as an input or output from which to record.

I was just confused why you were looking in system preferences - I use a mac so I know what it is.ron@ronniereverb.com wrote:When I speak of System Preferences, I'm speaking of the Mac OS, the equivalent of control panel in a PC. If things don't show up in Audio Midi Setup, you won't get anywhere. Does the Yamaha show up as an Audio or Midi device? You have to match those things on both sides of the equation.

Re: How to Connect the Kronos to Logic Pro & Ed Fenner's
Oh sorry, system preferences is where i always go to do general troubleshooting; also that's the first place yamaha showed up.
Just got off the phone with Logic Pro advisor and we were able to connect the yamaha thru the Midi app and then into Logic.
However, for the Kronos, he said I need to contact Korg to ascertain I have the current driver for the new Maverick OS and that I might also need a firmware update on the Kronos.

all of the updates are available on the Korg site. All of the latest are working for me.ron@ronniereverb.com wrote:Oh sorry, system preferences is where i always go to do general troubleshooting; also that's the first place yamaha showed up.

Again, it shows up under devices. However, unlike the Yamaha, it does not show up in the MIDI Studio Utility nor is recognized by Logic X.

Show ups under "devices" where? What are you looking at when you see this?ron@ronniereverb.com wrote: Again, it shows up under devices. However, unlike the Yamaha, it does not show up in the MIDI Studio Utility nor is recognized by Logic X.

in the Finder, under Devices. as soon as I download the driver, it shows up there and you can click on it and open the driver or read the "read me" file. then when you disconnect the usb from the kronos, it disappears.ed_f wrote:Show ups under "devices" where? That sounds like it is use the external drive image for the usb. It doesnt mean anything is installed, just you have stucka a USB in your computer. Did you run the installer from there?
