Impressive Vocal Processor

Post by Sharp »

Hi all.
I was in a music store a few days ago and they had a bashed up TC-Helicon Voiceworks Pro rack unit there.

Got to admit, I was pretty impressed with this unit. Have a listen to this. It's preset 21

Didn't have the heart to buy someone elses damaged gear, but after messing around with it for an hour, I ordered one new for €250 from Thomann. Should have it Monday.

It has many other functions than just Harmony also. It does things like Pitch Correction, Vocal Modelling, Compression, Effects and so on.

I've been holding off buying a Voicelive2 since I first need to invest in some proper sound isolation and acoustic treatment, but they are very good sounding versatile tools indeed and definitely on my 'must-buy' list.

Great unit sharp,i highly recommend these I have had mine for a couple of years, and it's brilliant,(don't buy it on the premise of sounding like a pro singer without being able to sing in pitch, you've got to at least have a half decent voice to start with)although it has correction, but use it subtly or your gonna have those annoying Cher style vocals.

I love it for the harmonies as I got fed up of double tracking for stage use and relying on prerecorded backing tracks and wanted something to give me Live harmonies on stage that I could control as your your able to control the harmonies via midi too,it gives good vocals that more polished sound,I chose this over the original Voicelive units as I wanted a rack unit, but since then have now added a Voicelive 2 pedal for live use,as these have also come down greatly in price it isn't as fully featured as the VW+ but is based on the same technology and more geared for stage use,the VW effects and stuff can be controlled by control changes but I liked the Voice live 2 as you can switch the effects in and out like you can with a stomp guitar pedal using your feet which meant I didn't have to include a preprogrammed midi track in my sequences to do this like I did for the VW or take my hands off the keys whilst playing to switch them in and out,you can buy a foot switch unit for it but you only have 3 switches.

The VW+ units have come down greatly in price so are an absolute steal now,I paid £650 for my original unit 3/4 years ago,so you can see what a bargain they are now,I bought a second VW unit a few month ago from retailer Andertons, they now sell them for £180 I bought it as a spare in case my original packs in,for that price they are a giveaway.

Thanks guys.
After reading your comments, I'm even more excited now to receive delivery tomorrow.

Might even upload a recording of myself killing a song with it in a few days.

Those automatic harmonies are REALLY well done! The dynamics and transients sound quite well preserved to my ears!

Great work, TC!

The video shown is of the voiceworks plus unit are you talking about the same unit or is it the voicelive pro?

Yes, the Voiceworks Plus is what I ordered. Same unit as in the video.

Sorry for the confusion. I made a mistake in saying "pro" instead of Plus in my post.

The Eagle has landed today. A day later than expected but hey, at least it came in a box that didn't show a single sign of damage or being even slightly bumped.

Yeah..... very happy with this. For the €250 I spent, this is a complete no brainer. Can't get over how much the harmony functions have improved from older rack units I've had on the past.

What impressed me most was some simple edits I made to create a Double Tracking Vocal preset. Kind of mad that you can sing out live with this and have wide stereo double tracked vocal studio sound in real time.

I've only had about 3 hours playing with it today so far but for the price I paid I'm already laughing my ass off here. I'll give it a good blast tomorrow and start setting things up how I like them best.

This is good to hear as I have been considering the voice live touch from TC helicon for awhile now. I may just have to ask Santa or my Birthday Angel
