Korg M1 User Samples

Post by stephenuk »

Is it possible to creat your own user samples and upload them via midi sysex onto the korg m1? I keep seeing libratian apps that state you can upload pcm sound cards etc like the legacy vst ones, if someone could shed some light on this would be appreciated

thanks

hi, welcome to the forum. No, you can not load user samples on the m1. You can however use the pcm cards that have new samples like the korg ones you see on the m1 vst. The only synth that alows you to load your own samples is the T series with the ex upgrade, t3 ex, t2 ex and t1. The cards for the m1 are geting rare now, and very expensive becouse of that. You are better off geting a t3 ex if you can find a good one

Or T2 or T1 - don't value your chances though, they're either well bust or the owners won't sell 'em. I considered selling my T2ex a while a go when I bought an 88 key Roland but changed my mind. The T's are a classic piece of under-rated kit and I won't/can't sell mine, just too attached. I will add though, if anyone knows where I can get a T1 from then the Roland can go ;)

Yep definitly right, the T series is highly underated, people only see the M1, for me my T3 ex is worth at least 4 M1's lol. Double memory, double sounds, sample memory, floppy disk, big display, and 4 midi out's. The controler capabilities alone are awsome on this keyboard, you can independently set velocity and aftertouch for each of the 8 parts in combi, and it's 8 for internal plus 8 for external gear, and 4 midi outs is just great. I've got to tell you, i love my 01/W's but if i could get another deal like i got for my T3ex, i would buy another one on the spot, or better a T2ex :)
A T1 is almost near to impossible to find, but i think there is one currently on sale on e-bay in USA i think.

I saw for example an M1 standard, not the ex, on sale for 700 euro and from the same seller a T3ex on sale for 300 euro, it's crazy!!!
Why in bloddy hell would i give more than double the money for an M1?? Well i hope the T3 prices stay down anyway, i'll buy them all eheeheheh :)

the m1 is probably more because it was a milestone classic literally every house track in the 90s used that glorius piano 8 preset and the organ, they do say the audio character is unique on the m1 eg the vst version doesnt quiet sound the same. i get what you mean about a t3 being more advanced how ever its cheaper, but then an alesis drum machine is more advanced than a roland tr909 but the 909 is crazy prices too but its a collectors item

Yes i understand what you are saying, but in this case it's not a question of more advanced, it's just that the T3 IS an M1 (x4), same synth it just has more memory and a hard drive and extra features, great features. but it's the Same synth.

Do people want the sound of the M1 or a nice black synth that says M1 on it insted of T3 and that looks good on tv? i just dont understand realy...

There was a company called Frontal Lobe which produced an expansion module that sat on the M1 and allowed you to use your own samples. I remember lusting over it back in the day.
