Diagnosing and Replacing an output jack on an X5D

Post by valhalla »

I had another thread about this problem with an output jack on my X5D but it kind of dead ended as no one responded to my last post. Does anyone know which output jack, L/Mono or Right, has the switching mechanism to switch between mono and stereo? Has anyone replaced a jack on the X5D board before? If so do you have any warnings, caveats or tips? (taking it to a Korg repair shop doesn't count :) )

Thanks!

Normally the right channel goes through the tip of the right jack and to the right input summing amplifier, while the left signal goes to the left input of the summing amplifier and proceeds to the tip of the left jack. Inserting a plug into the right jack breaks the signal going to the summing amp at the same time the signal goes to the tip of the jack. I haven't looked at the schematic of the X5D, but that's how it's usually done. You can confirm it by seeing that the right jack has three connections, signal in to tip, signal out, and ground to shield. Without a plug, signal in should be a closed connection with signal out. With a plug, signal in should be open with respect to signal out. The left jack will only have 2 connections, one for signal/tip and the other for shield/ground.
