I like the look and may "borrow" the idea - I am surprised you opted for pads rather than keys unless you've figured out a way to do both (aux keyboard?) at the same time or unless you've decided that pads give you a playable scale.

I have the keyboard, too. I can swap out one of the other controllers if I want to, or I can set it to the side. Setting it to the side is more comfortable for me, especially since I use bery little keys when using this app. Of course there's always the app's keyboard if I need one on-the-fly...but setting the kaos pad to a scale really makes the keyboard unnessesary for my use.

My usb port has 7 inputs, BTW...handy for whatever else.
The only negative is there's no way to charge the iPad while playing, and having all this stuff plugged in sucks the battery pretty quickly. I'd estimate I can get close to 2 hours of play, though.

I used some of the foam floor tiles to make the lock-up for the components. The structure is made out of mdf, and it has an internal cavity that houses all the chords, so they're not all over the place. Eventually I'll make a lid so I can carry the whole unit like a suitcase.

Re: opted for the pads...
The external pads is key...you don't have to navigate to the song position screen, and youmcan noodle on the synth scale kaos pad at all times...nice to be able to have your finger on the kaos while switching song/ptn or using the mixer! I built this for this in particular...having to cut a solo short because you need time to navigate screens is the PITS. This makes playing the app WAY more fluid.

WRT charging....I've been looking at a 'Cable Jive' port pass-thru/charging adaptor on Amazon:

Only problem is once you put it on, then the CCK, you are really extended. Probably will end up getting an extension cable and have the connectors under the iPad or something..
