M50 and the PS-1 Pedal

Post by MinorKey »

Hi all!

I was thinking of getting me a (Korg) PS-1 foot switch. However, I don't know whether it's 100% compatible with the M50. The reason I ask is that this type of pedal is no longer being made (apparently), and that's why I suspect that it's somewhat older than the M50.

And so could anyone tell me whether
a) I will be able to connect it to the M50 without problems?
b) I will be able to use it as a sustain pedal?
c) I will be able to use it to switch between patches?
- As far as I know the answer to all my questions should be "yes", but I'd rather make sure before buying it.

Also... I could get the PS-3 for a lower price, but the PS-1 simply seems better (plastic construction vs metal construction).

Thanks for the response!

Afaik the answer is 3 one all questions, I even used different brand switches and worked; actually never got a switch that didn't work.

Also it might be an idea to check a Behringer foot pedal, cost a bit more, is a bit bigger, but gives you 2 pedals and a load of switches.

"switch between patches" is a tricky one - you can go either up a patch or down a patch, but that's it.

The Behriner pedal Michel mentions actually lets you assign various patches to the multiple pedals on the thing, if you dig into it a bit. But it might be more and more complicated than what you're looking for.

Hello and thanks for the feedback!

Ironically, it turns out that I actually can't get the PS-1 simply because Amazon, my only option, won't let me (the PS-1 can't be shipped to my location). Pretty unexpected I might add! d:
So now it's either the PS-3 or some other pedal.
What's the exact name of that Behringer you have mentioned?
- It might be more than what I need but I'd still like to check it out.

All korg accessories are 100% compatible with Korg workstation/synth/arranger etc. You can also use other brand name but you may have to switch polarity in order to work properly.

Sustain and switch are two totally different things on m50. If you want precision on damper you should go for DS-1H damper pedal so you can have half-damper function that is supported on m50. Alternatively you can choose another brand as long the jack is stereo, coz the half-damper function needs a stereo jack to work.

Switch will work with a simple switch pedal.

If you need somth cheap just to get the job done you can get any sustain or switch pedal and watch out for re-calibration if needed.

Michel, exactly what model of Behringer pedal are you talking about?
