URGENT! What is the KP3´s fader for? Also doubt KP3/ESX1...

Post by Mr53rg10 »

Hello!

I want to buy a KP3 and I found a cheap used one in internet. The fader has got a problem: when you move it slowly it is all ok, and at max vol it is ok, but it is problematic when one must move it quickly to mix the volume of a sample with the general volume.
I´m telling you what the guy told me, but I have no idea what that practically means, because I never had a KP3 and I have NO IDEA about what its fader does!
Can somebody explain to me what is the fader for and which problems I would have with this faulty fader in live performances, or if I can bypass this fault with an external mixer of whatever?
The headphone also has got a bit false contact...

Finally, could you explain the difference between KP3 and ESX1 about real time FX processing and sampling, on the fly on stage?

Thanks!

For anyone else: the question's been addressed in the Electribe section so this post can be disregarded.

Slider on the KP3 controls sample bank volume, and also has a SHIFT function to control the effects release time.

KP3: Effects box with tempo-controlled live looping, realtime (re)sampling. Has a 4-part sample bank but you need to stop playback to load samples from an SD card.
ESX: Sequenced pattern-based playback of previously loaded samples with effects and filters. Does onboard (re)sampling but playback needs to be stopped.

Both allow audio input to be filtered/effected, with KP3 having a more immediate interface while ESX is arguably more versatile/customizable if you take the time to sync/sequence it.

it's for fading!

no but seriously, if you turn it all the way down, then pres shift and bank 1, your KP# turns into a synth like kpro...then the fader becomes a midi dump button, and formats your memory card to fat32...

Thanks both.
I posted the question in both sections because is about both products so I wanted to reach eventually also the users who only have one of the two units so they can tell me what that unit does and I can understand the difference :)
I think I did understand.
But, for KP3: it needs to stop playback to load samples from SD, but if sampling is real time, may I DURING the playback sample something (it has got or not some kinf of ram memory?) and add it to what is playing?

Bowmoney, I did not understand. But I understand I should not buy the defected unit.

of course, you can sample (and resample) while playing loops with the KP3. The sampled loop starts to play directly after it has been sampled, the other loops continuing playing

Ok. got it, I have to get a KP3 and see what's up. Then if I am not satisfied with its real time looping functions, I will keep it as fx processor and look for a loop station too.

Thanks!

Yeah Bow's making s**t up, for lulz no doubt. What I meant is that you can do everything on the fly, except if you have a wav file saved to the card that you wanna load up, KP3 has to stop playback while that saved sample loads in. Everything else is on-the-fly. You'll be happy with the KP3.

Probably for the best. Since the KP3 is supposed to be fun it's probably best to get one that doesn't have any annoying little issues that tarnish your enjoyment of it.

Post any questions you might have once you get it!
