Question about Monotribe sequencing
Hello!
I will soon recevie a monotribe and in order to understand better what else to add to the lineup, I would like to know: is it possible to connect some other unit to the monotribe and let the monotribe sequence the sounds of that unit instead of its own internal sounds?
Other question: how can a monotribe interact with other units, modifying their sound or things like that?

Don't worry, you will make mistakes anyway, but if you worry they will be more.

The Monotribe doesn't have MIDI capabilities out of the box (which is what you need)
But you can buy and install the Miditribe and then it will be able to both control and be controlled by other units

Well, on a $200 machine, an extra $65 is quite a bit...
But really I think the decision came from the fact that the Monotribe is popular with synth modders. Korg knew someone would build a MIDI solution in no time (and left that open jack on the circuit so they wouldn't even need to mess with soldering the machine itself).
I've heard tell of people trying to build some other cool stuff into their Monotribes - like direct outs from the VCO, and separate line outs for each drum sound (which would be awesome because you could put each through different effects processors and get WAY fatter drum sounds) - definitely lots of possibilities if you have a hand for that stuff (personally I don't, and am terrified of borking the thing)

Best bet for a midi mod is this guy in the states:Mr53rg10 wrote:Hello!

$40 bucks. He also offers a $40 mod for separate audio outs for the drums. Yum!

Seems like a kit isn't really necessary for the separate audio outs - couldn't really make it much easier than building it from scratch, could it? 3 jacks, 3 resistors (or 4 if you want the SD Noise & Frame separated)

ah sweet, I scored a used Monotribe for almost half of what they cost new and after running it through my old Peavey ProFex processor immediately thought about wanting a mod to separate the drum parts for individual processing. so I'm guessing you still have all the parts mixed at the "stock" output?

Here's the PDF with the schematics of the rhythm section:
http://www.korg-datastorage.jp/Manual/monotribe_sch.pdf
Note the [+] contact points labelled HH Out, SD Noise Out, SD Frame Out, and BD Out. They are visible on the board inside your monotribe, and are labelled in the same way.
So you can make a separate out for each drum if you want. If you use the right type of jacks you can chain the signals to get them mixed or separate just by plugging in separate lines. Monomodder discusses it here:
http://monomodder.blogspot.ca/2011/07/monomod-2.html
His blog also has a guide for adding decay pots/switches for the drums.
Please note I'm NOT an expert on this and you should read the Monomodder post thoroughly and make sure you know what you're doing - don't just take my word :) I'm just sharing my research because I'm getting ready to do this same mod.

Oh and to answer your other question: yes you still get drums at the main output, but the separated outputs are unaffected by the rhythm volume knob (thus you can turn the drums down entirely to take them out of the main mix, but still get them on the separated lines)
