Help with empty presets!!

Post by Maceman »

Hi All,

This is my first post. I hope someone can give me a hand. I bought the M50 quite some time ago, but i really haven't learned anything on it ...i just used the default settings and am only now exploring outside the box :)

Today i started watching some videos on youtube from Richard F from Korg. Great stuff!

Here is my problem. So, in his videos, for example when he shows fx routing, he uses the example of adding a stereo compressor to a track, which i did no problem, but when he goes into the "P" at the top right, his has factory presets... and unfortunately mine are completely empty!
So, I followed some threads speaking about how to load in the presets from the Global button, and it seemed to say it was writing to the M50, but again, presets were all blank.

Where can i get these cool presets and how to load them into this unit.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am finally starting to get around this thing, but of course, there is always a hiccup :)

Cheers,
Maceman

They are part of the last factory update to the operating system. You need to download and install the latest system from the korg webpage. :D

Look at your screen on the M50 during start up and it will show the version you are currently using..

As far as the upgrade goes, if memory serves me correctly, you will find a set of directions with the download I believe. You download the upgrade and put it on your memory card in two parts. Load the first one then delete it from your card before installing the second part of the upgrade.

thanx very much. okay, i just found an old 128 mb sd card downstairs :) i am going to try this now.
I don't think i will worry about deleting anything important as i only made one combi preset today, which i can redo. It was just a test to learn how to do that anyways.

wish me luck!!

Maceman

ps. Is there anyone or anywhere to get some cool combi's, perhaps sounds from bands like supertramp or whatever. i would love to try other people's combis...once i get this part figured out.

edit: i am currently at version 1.0.5

Yes there are some pretty good combi's and programs to download at several forums. This sight has members who have updoaded some and one called HOLDSG.PCG might be something you would enjoy. I am not sure where I got that one but it's out there. I belong to a couple of user groups for the M50 on Yahoo groups. they have downloads as well. Korgman has a thread here on this forum with some downloads also. I hope others will tip you off to whatever I miss and I will try to look up some adresses for you find them tomorrow.
Considering how long the board has been on the market however, I am surprised that there are not more files out to load. I have not found anythnig new in a while now. I am working on some to upload but only have about 5 completed so far. When I get enough to warrent an upload I will be doing that.
Today I started using the Karma software for the M50 to create user drum patterns for my M50 also.
Which brings up KM50. Karma Labs has KM50 software that gives the M50 the combis and programs from the M3 along with the Karma functionallity. You can purchase that also but it is does cost 200 bucks. That is what I am using to make my own drum patterns now.
I am heading to bed but will try to find links for you tomorrow.

ok, have a good night and thanx very much for your help!!

I will have a look into the karma stuff as well!!

Tomorrow i am going to try to learn about the drums as well and how to make my own. This is gonna be cool, i don't know why i waited this long to get going, but it was probably because i had the M50 in a bad spot in the house where i don't like to play, and now i moved it to my living room so i get better use!!

cheers,

Maybe if you are going to reorganize or manage PCG files you can use my app, it's free and a link for more info is in my signature.

Here is a link to a yahoo M50 user group that you will need to join in order to download . The sight is in another language but the downloads are great. Once you join go to the Archivos link at the left of the page. This is where I got the HOLDSG.PCG.

cool. thanx for those links!!

I have 2 questions after today's learning. So i watched another couple videos by korg on how to use the sequencer. I was able to make 2 songs, with 4 channels each, sounded great...but after i came back a few hours later and turn ed on the M50, they didn't save. My 2 questions are as follows.

1. How do you save what you make in the Sequencer?

2. How to I use a combi in the sequencer. What i mean is, i learned yesterday how to make combi's and save them to the combi bank, but how do i get them into a track in the sequencer for use and then save them after?

Thanx once again!!

You press enter then rec/write on the sequencer to load the current combi to the sequencer. Save all sequences to your SD card using media mode.
Oh and use the multi record option in the sequencer to record the whole combi in one pass if you wish.
I have been messing around with the loop all tracks option and building up tracks over 8 or twelve bars at a time and really like that option..

ok, well i think maybe i better do some reading up on this as i haven't had success yet.

After i make a song with Seq mode, i open the top right menu and picked 'save to template' and it did something, but didn't save the song.

I can't seem to save the seq song no matter what i do??? arghh.

IO remember when i first bought this from Long & Mcquade, i remember asking the fella if someone wanted to come over and make some money to teach me how to use it... i wish there was someone who could just me lessons, 1 a day, for a week :)

ps. yes, i like the loop thing as well. real fun. I start with drums on track 1, then bass on 2, and work up with loops. After 3 or 4 it sounds primo. Yes, when my wife got home from work and i was so happy to show her what i created, that is when i realize i made the "sound of silence" :)

pss. i tried the combi load into seq thing...it seems to have loaded, but it must have erased the other 3 tracks i had, as they are gone now.... I am sure this is easy once you get going :)
