I just got an EMX-1 and have a couple questions:
1) Looking back, I see the advertisement was for an EMXSD, but it's an EMX-1. I didn't realize the difference until today. Is there much difference between the two, other than the card you would use? I got it for a good price either way, but I'm still annoyed at the wording of the ad.
2) The pre-loaded samples take up all of the sampling memory. Does a card actually increase the sampling memory, or do you have to start removing some of the pre-loaded samples to make room for your own? I like some of the pre-loaded sounds, don't like some of the others.
Thanks!
Tom

Do a little searching on here and you'll find plenty of threads covering this subject. The EMX is a synth, not sampler. It does have some PCM drum samples, but you can't add samples to the machine.

Oops - I should have said ESX
I haven't had my coffee yet - my apologies. I already have an EMX and the new machine in question is an ESX-1. I purchased it mainly to beef up and diversity the percussion from the EMX, but I'd like to take advantage of the sampling features since they are there. I already plugged a little guitar sound into one of the drum keys on a pattern and it sounds cool so I can tell there are countless possibilities.

1) as Aciphecs said, that question's been answered several times already. The SD version has a different power supply and different preloaded samples + patterns
2) there is no way to increase the sampling memory, using a SmartMedia or SD card doesn't increase it, it just gives you storage for backing up the samples/patterns/songs etc. in the system's built-in memory

My apologies again - I did several searches looking for answers to my specific questions and couldn't find one. Now I have to decide whether I should follow up with the seller or not - it's still a good deal, I think, for an ESX-1 ($250) and I like the machine, but I'm annoyed that he listed it differently. He has a nearly identical ad up now for an EMXSD and I'll bet you anything it's an EMX-1. I e-mailed him but got no response. I think since I still got a good deal and I'm happy with the machine, I'll just move on. But I'll always wonder about those other patterns and samples unless I get on an ESXSD someday. As far as sampling, I mainly wanted to use voices - and I've found that running them from an I-Pod into the audio in works real well for that.
