The powder-coat plastic is my least favorite feature of the triton - luckily my extreme is a much smoother finish.
Anyway - if you're careful with it you can de-grunge your classic with a Mr. Clean eraser sponge - just use a light brushing motion and make sure that the sponge is no more than a little damp. Motion should be away from switches.
As to painting - have you thought about a "skin"? Many commercial sign shops can photo-wrap just about anything with a temporary plastic applique that can feature just about any graphic you want. Neon lights, flames, your Mom's face....
And it's removable with no residue. If you decide to sell you don't have to find a buyer who's attracted to your mom and your triton.
Cost should be less than $100. You might need to strip off the keyboard's outer case yourself on order to have the shop do the installation.
Painting or skinning, you'll lose the knob and button labels (permanently if you paint) so I hope you know the layout by heart.
