combination timbre status stuck

Post by jimmyenglish »

Hello. I have a Korg Triton Classic Prox. Today when putting some combinations together the thing crashed. Screen got all crazy and said "system error." I turned off and back on. Now I notice whenever I try to change the timbre status in the combis I can't. As soon as I tap any other option than what it's on it just exits the popup. If one is off I can't turn it on and vice versa. If I try to use the scroll knob or inc dec buttons it just exits the popup. It does this with all the combis. Mine, factory, everything. I'm leary of factory resetting because I don't have any of the original floppys nor do I even have a floppy drive at home. Am I totally screwed if I reset without the floppies? Please help!

Great forum and thanks in advance!

Unfortunately you will need a floppy drive. Sometimes if you load something off the internet it could contain some bad code that will make your triton go crazy, this happened to an old karma of mine.

Buy a floppy drive, it should cost ya around 20 bucks! then get some floppies, and then go to korg.com (or korg.uk if youre in the uk) and then go to support>keyboards & modules> Triton
get the latest OS if you havent yet (the highest numbered one) and then follow the directions
note this will wipe your triton, so if you can (hopefully!) save all your work to a floppy first! resetting the OS will delete everything!

Also, try doing a self test , go to tritonhaven.com to the FAQ they should say how to get into self test mode properly.
It sounds to me like you have a software issue, not a hardware issue, so im sure you will be fine :)

Hope for the best, also check my sig for my site with great stuff for the triton

while playing? no. but if you want you can highlight the volume slider in the mixer page and use the value slider to change the volume.
OR you could use one insert effect as a stereo limiter, and change the gain to -inf and the src to a knob (mke sure to set the control page correctly for the knob) then o the right change the gain adjust, then use the knob to control volume
also to not eat up polyphony you can use the arpegiator. check out the bell combi called
"Bells&str(arp)"
hit the arp button notice the strings go away
try this.

While playing, YES, BUT...

Nothing stops the overall sound while you're in edit mode.

Pick your combi, select edit, go to page 3 or 4 -- track select control INT - OFF - EXT [away from my kbd just now so I'm not positive about page number - am positive about function].

Once there, you can turn individual voices on and off WHILE PLAYING; I do it all the time while editing combis.

BUT -- it's fairly deep into the sub-menus, NOT really where you want to be in a live play situation unless you have time to get in and out. It takes a couple of accurate button pushes and you have to really know the edit routines to use this feature real-time.

Luis -

Not bored. Just not accurate enough for you. I'm on my way to church (where my Tr-Ex is) so I'll take my mac in, get a more accurate step-by-step for you, and post in a bit.

OK - had a chance to actually look at my board.

TO MUTE & UNMUTE TRACKS WITRH A BUTTON PUSH!!!

In Combi mode.

(1) Push "EDIT" Button - front panel

(2) On touchscreen select page 2 - midi & track (it's the third page, but the first page is numbered ZERO)

(3) Select the first tab (1st of 4) - midi -- mid-page you'll see a section called status. You can set tracks INT - OFF - EXT. To activate a sound status must be INT - i.e., using onboard sounds, or EXT to send midi data to an external device.

(4) If status is on (INT) and you want to mute it, touch the track to be muted and - up BUTTON - left of the touchscreen. This is the most accurate way to change status in a live situation.

(5) If status for a track is OFF, the quickest / surest way to activate it is touch the track and push the down BUTTON.

You can do this operation all on the touch screen, but the buttons are a surer way to make the changes.

Thanks for your reply, but even this way i can´t change the status to INt - OFF when i playing, it only changes when i remove my hands from the keys, at least at my Triton Pro Classic.

But many thanks anyway..:)

Then the answer would seem to really be no - you cannot HOLD a sound and change track status -- edit changes have to happen during at least a moment of silence (hands off) - the extreme has a faster processor and the switch takes about a half second -- do-able for me.

But the classic has a slower processor speed and takes a while to write to system... in short a noticeable gap.

That would leave mix (realtime) controls - they won't save polyphony 'cuz you aren't actually truning the osc off, but 0 volume = muted track.

--------------

Do what you can to reserve polyphony by using 1 vs 2 osc for most sounds -- GM sounds are generally all single oscillator.
