Not sure what you're asking for here... but that won't stop me.

If you're looking for the finger slide effect on upright bass, try adding a potamento value of ~1 to a "mono"-ized acoustic bass program like the Growl A Bass (both of these parameters should be selectable on page 3 if you're editing as part of a combi - does't require that you overwrite a program.) Portamento effects just work better on mono voices - watch your range as you don't want to trigger high notes with your right hand. You might also want to turn it on/off with a toggle like <y> but that would be done on the program rather than in combi mode.

If you're talking a synth bass the same thing applies; you can add a portamento value up to ~3-4 before things start sounding like mush. A lot depends on your bassline, tho'. Longer portamento values are better for slower lines with some distance between notes (ie., 4th or more).

Hope this helps,

lol. :D ..thanx! those are some really good tips, will try 'em out to see the outcomes. i apreciate it.
what im looking for is a "patch or program" of a bass player sliding h/her finger on the bass string
my cheap casio keyboard has a patch that does exactly what im asking when you hold down a key
on the keyboard you can hear the bass sliding down to the key being held..vrooom!..like a real bass
player..i know i could sample it--problem is, casio general midi sound doesn't fit other patches im
working with on the triton.

do you think i can find the sliding bass patch in one of the exb-cards..if-yes, doyou kno which one ??

I'd bet that the slide was programmed, and not sampled. Sampled slides in the case of fretless bass, dobro guitar (Alesis used to have a killer Dobro on their first Quadrasynth expansion card), or brass falls tend to be great as a one shot but are hard to control in live play. The fact that your slide was key-controlled and not velocity-triggered is another clue.

If you've go the Casio still you might want to look at how the pitch envelopes, portamento and key follow were set up. You might also want to check out the mono/legato setting in combi's under oscillator set-up (page 2 or 3 'fI recall correctly).

Of course the synth architectures will probably be radically different, but there may be enough similarities to get reasonably close. Not all of the values will translate directly but you might get a better handle on how the sound was put together and that would aid you in duplicating it. Remember to use a percentage of the value for when translating values from hi-range (0-127) to low (0-10).

Use a fretless or the acoustic growl bass as a starting point.
