Need Help programming on Korg x50

Post by kasmot »

Hi to all Korg users,

Sorry for the dumb question but this is my first time to use a korg synthesizer. I just want to know if how can I program the song "Poker Face" on Korg X50. For the INTRO, I use the Following:
1-Square Lead (Intro)
2-Square Lead+Saw Lead (Intro)
3-Square Lead+Saw Lead+Bass&Lead (Intro)

Is it on the Program or Combi?

Hope you could help me on this coz this is my First Korg keyboard & I also starting to learn Piano/Keyboard.

Thanks!

Hi Kasmot...I don't think you can record an entire song on the X50 ...i believe you need a workstation ( i.e. Korg Triton LE ) to do that...you can however create loops with the appegriators and whatever instruments you choose...You really need to read through the Operator manual to see what the keyboard is capable of...you'll be glad you did because you will get a whole lot better understanding of the X50 and how easy it is to program...it's a great keyboard ....( someone will probably verify this or correct me if wrong )..also ..make sure you download the Editor if you have access to a computer..the graphic interface makes everything very easy to edit...good luck ..RW

Hi Greywolf. Thanks for the reply. I do read the manual but unfortunately I'm not that good on Programming Korg Synths coz this is my first time to own a korg.
I just want to do is to program not to record the song. So I'm seeking any tips on how to program the effects of the song "Poker Face". And need to know if I will use COMBI or Program will do. Sorry again for this dumb question.

- I dont have a PC on my house so I cannot use the X50 Editor. I just bring my x50 on my office & use the laptop when breaktime.

Hope you could help me.

use combi...i have a laptop that i use to edit the X50...all you have to do is install cd rom that came with keyboard ..then go to a korg website and download X50 driver ..after that all you need is a USB cable to connect keyboard to laptop...graphic interface will make editing so much easier instead of trying to edit on keyboards interface...RW

Thanks again Greywolf. Do you know the song "Poker Face of Lady Gaga"?
For the Intro, I will be using this effect for my x50:
1-Square Lead
2-Saw Lead
3-Bass&Lead

The Effects 1&2 will be assigned to First & second octave. Then the Effect 3 will be assigned to Third-Fourth-Fifth octave of the keyboard (Split).

If I will do the intro of the song, I will play first Effect 1 (Square lead) then followed by the effect 2 (Saw lead). Is there a way that I can switch to effects 2 will playing the effect 1 (like it will layer from the first effect)?

Thanks & hope you could help me on this. :D

kasmot, you are using the term "effects" incorrectly. Square Lead, Saw Lead, Bass&Lead are not effects. Those are names or types of programs or timbres. Reverb, Distortion, Delay are examples of effects. It's important to use the correct terms to reduce confusion.

In addition to the confusion about the terms, those are not the sounds that match the intro of Poker Face.

Poker Face starts with something closer to an FM style electric piano with reverb. Added next is a supersaw with noise. Added next is a square wave with noise.

Hi Xmlguy. thanks for correcting me. Sorry if my question is very confusing.

This will be the revised question.
1-FM style electric piano with reverb
2-Supersaw with noise
3-Square wave with noise

The Programs 1&2 will be assigned to 1st to 2nd octave. Then the Program 3 will be assigned from 3rd to 5th octave of the keyboard (Split).

If I will do the intro of the song, I will play first Program 1 then followed by the Program 2. Is there a way that I can switch to program 2 while playing the Program 1 (like it will layer & play simultaneously)?
Can it be done???

Thanks & Sorry again for using the wrong term (effects).

Sure, you can do the splits however you want. You aren't limited to full octaves, as you can assign any key range to a program in a combi. The biggest problem with doing a split on that intro is that each sound in the intro has a different rhythm are layered as each new one is added. Personally, I would program the song on a sequencer to trigger the X50, which will give 16 channels in Multi mode, then do the splits only for the parts I intend to play where some expression and improvisation is most useful. Combis are limited to 8 programs, so you might run out of program slots to sequence the whole song.
