Triton Sequencer/Combi & External Sound Source/Module

Can the Triton Classic be used to access a multi-timbral devices 16 channels?

if so, how? I'm having quite a bit of trouble accessing the individual sounds on my Motif Rack XS (in sequencer mode & Combi mode)

It'll have to be done in sequencer mode (the Triton line only uses 8 tracks in their combis). In a sequencer, set individual tracks to be of type EXT or EX2 (the latter if you need to send bank change messages along with program change messages) - this is done on the Param1 tab. This is the same as combi mode, if you don't need a full 16 channels at once. You can also set the type to be BTH in sequencer mode only, if you want to have a track sound on BOTH the Triton and the external device.

if you were making the channel/track trigger sound from the Triton and the External sound source at once... (ex. channel 1 trigger a sound on track 1 from the Triton AND midi channel 1 of the external device), you could probably come up with some pretty thickly layered sounds!!!!

it didn't seems to always work though. I haven't tried it in sequencer mode. I have tried it in combi, and it didn't seem to work right. One thing, it was ALWAYS triggering the sound that was on the global midi channel. There was no way to stop it from doing that. I read somewhere that while you are in combi mode, that it would trigger all the sounds that didn't say off. ALL AT ONCE... I guess this is understandable. So if I want to trigger one sound at a time (like I am sequencing) I need to go to sequencer mode.

The main problem that I'm having though is that Global channel thing. And how to set the Triton up with external sound module to access individual channels. The global channel seems to be getting in the way.

Yes, in combi mode, he global channel is always sent. Make sure your other devices either always use this or filter it out when they don't need it.

In combi mode, the MIDI channels that are sent at once are the global channel plus any other channels that have EXT timbres. You can send on up to 9 channels at once, but unless you use key or velocity zones to limit what gets sent, every key sends everything. There's no way to filter the global channel by key or velocity zone (technically, you could set it up on an EXT track, but it wouldn't do anything since the global channel is always sent).

In sequencer mode, the MIDI channel sent when you play is the MIDI channel for the currently selected track, *if that track or another track with the same MIDI channel are EXT/EX2 or BTH*, plus any tracks played back by the sequencer that are on EXT tracks. In other words, you can send on exactly zero or one tracks by playing the keyboard, plus up to 16 by playing back previously sequenced data.

how do you manipulate the key or velocity zones for the sounds that are being triggered from an external sound source? (do you have to do it on the external device or can you actually set it up on the Triton.?)

so you're saying you can change the velocity and key zones for the global channel? if so how do you do that?

and can you set up a sequence like a combi to trigger many or few sounds at a time? and the key/velocity zones as well?
