Ribbon Controller

Sorry for so stupid question, but if anybody has a time for this can somobedy expleain me how to use ribbon controller, and for what thay usualy use it.

simple. You just put your finger on it, push a little and slide to left or right. Can be made to control many different things for example pitch or filter cutoff. I use it as a octave bender on my leads. My joystick bends +-2 and the ribbon +-12 so normally i can do bendings with the joystick but if I want to do bigger drops or some weird pitch effects I use the ribbon.

I jast don't like factory programs and combies , so i am spendings all days to reprogram all sounds to my tast and i usualy start from empty sheet, so i wanted to know how to use ribbon.

I suppose it's different from the usual slider/dial because you can jump straight to a value between 0-127 without having to hit the ones inbetween.
