NS5R vs N364

Hi!

Are the N364 presets included in the NS5R like JV1080 presets are in JV2080 and JV1010 includes all of them?
Are they compatible?
Where I can get factory N365 sysex file, NS5R and N365 factory preset list or manual?
Is there any difference in sound? Which one has better DAC?

I don't think they are compatible as the presets might be the same but the internal waveforms aren't.
Note that presets evolve from synth to synth. This is because the effects, the waveforms and the soundgenerator in general changes.

As which one has the best DAC, I don't know but I don't think it matters anyways. You won't notice it I think.

They do have the same wave rom, same multisamples, same effects. Only, the rack has an additional 4 megs of ROM sounds, and some extra features - but doesn't have a seq. The sounds are the same, although the file formats are different!

I'm trying to figure out how I could put (my own) X5D sounds on the NS5R.

Any help?

Sorry guys... the NS5R would receive a N364 and a X5D sysex message and look at you like you had 5 heads. wouldn't work.

Korg X2/X3/N264/N364 Family ID# = 35

Korg X5/X5D/05RW Family ID# = 36

Korg NS5R/NX5R Family ID# = 42

these are Family ID codes in the very beginning of a sysex message. I don't know if this would work, but you might try it:

Download a very simple hex editor program. Edit the N364 or X5D sysex message

Change the first 35 or 36 (depending on which sysex you're editing) to a 42. Then try sending it to the NS5R. Make sure you back up your program and combination data beforehand. not sure if it would work, and you'll still end up with a jumbled multisample mess on your hands, but i think it would at least load up all the program data (you'd just have to remap your multisounds).

The X5D has .X5 files, not .sysex

The NS5R does recognise the .X5 files, only I'm not sure the programs/combis will sound EXACTLY the same.

Yes, the multis are the same, the effect are the same etc. Only, there are a few differences. Whereas value parameter was 0-99 in the X, now its 0-127 in the N. That's why I'd like a software that converts every single parameter perfectly.

I think it's best to try it myself. Even if it's not working I can sell it and get an X5D rack later...

You can initiate a MIDI Dump from the X5D to your computer... that will create the sysex file. Yeah, using the .X5 files won't do you any good... sysex i think is your only option. Are you familiar with it? I'm wondering if the X5/05 Editor program has a System Exclusive receive function you could use... but you would probably have to use another program (MIDI-EX or something freeware), also, I thought the X5D came with a Korg version of MOTU's UniSyn... that might have a similar feature on it.

The guy is in luck because I actually have an X5D.

X5/05 editor does not have sysex receive unfortunately. But Xedit has. Xedit can even convert from N364 PCG to X5/X3/X2 format.

So, as far i know there is editor for ns5r. This editor read *.x5 files and import them in to NS5R. Also you can edit everything in NS5R!!!

Bro, I'm trying to send my sounds to an NS5R, not N364 ...

So you have an X5D. Well, it's allright I import my .X5 files into XEdit, then save them as .sysex, then what software will I put them onto the NS?

Anyway, I think I'll just have to take a prog like "X Piano" that both machines include as a preset. Then, all I need to do is take a look at the parameter differences in the X and the N. Then I can re-create my sounds on the NS, the way the preset's been re-created from the X5 to NS.

Wow... well that solves everyone's problems! Korg UK Support page saves the day again Also, i think the Korg N364 banks are actually already on the NS5R (directed at AS_Pauly).
