Hi there!
Is it possible or not:
I have a microX connected via USB to my iMac running Cubase 4. There I have loaded the Editor software as VST plugin and so far this all works pretty well. I like much of the Combinations as song starters to get ideas by just jamming with them before I want to work on the stuff in more detail in Cubase.
What I can do is to record on MIDI tracks what *I* play on the keyboard, but not what is generated by the microX ARP, whatever and what I actually hear. I have found no setting or option, neither in the microX nor in the editor plug-in.
Hm... This can´t be right. Anyone has a tip for me?
Thanks!
microX - Possible to record MIDI output of the ARP to DAW?

Its a fairly common situation with hardware instruments. e.g. Yamaha's CS1x didn't do it but the CS2x did. You can see the arp patterns and easily reproduce them, so I don't see it as a problem. CS1x arp patterns were not editable [so you couldn't see how they were constructed] and included filter sweeps, velocity modulation and stuff like that, which made them a lot harder to copy.
Hm, OK... Thanks for your reply.
I find this a really impedimental omission. For the moment all that is recorded is the keys I press while playing but that is not what I hear. Besides that I was hoping I could dissolve the recorded MIDI parts by channels in order to have all data on separate tracks afterwards. This would allow me to edit sections in detail and to record audio tracks of it later on much more easier.
For now all these Combinations are not much more than performance toys or demo teasers and have not a real practical use if you want to start producing something out of them.
Sorry for my whining, bad hair day.
That said, the microX is a mighty small box anyway, so I will shut up now.

Yes, Sloan, you can record the outputs of the microX arps, the same as on Triton, M3, and other Korg workstations.
That said, I don't have a microX in front of me, so my advice can only be general.
Copy the Combi to Multi mode, so that the current Multi is basically the same as the Combi. But Multi mode has one extra setting. On the Track Parameter page, Status, you can set each timbre to play an INTernal sound, an EXTernal one, or BTH. Find which timbre/timbres are using Arps, and set it/them to Both. (Combi mode only has Int or Ext).
Arp notes will now be transmitted via MIDI.

Not sure if it is on the x50/microx/TR but on some korg synths you can set the midi 'possition' to pre- or post- sound generators. if you set it to -post it will transmit the arp, if you set it to pre it will transmit the keyboard key data only.
This might be only on the VAs though. but the other suggestion in the post above will work well.
remember too that you could set it to ext in combi mode, and have the int sound on a different channel on the combi.
another iportant point is that the x50/microx/tr will always transmit the keyboard data on the global channel, so you may want your arp on a different one
