I've watched a number of Youtube videos with some pretty cool examples of the padKontrol being used live for some cool beats.
As a beginner I realise I need a lot of practice before reaching that standard but was wondering if there are any standards or common layouts for samples.
Is it, for example, better to have the snare and kick close together or further apart on the grid?
I'd be really interested to see what peoples prefered layouts are and why those layouts work best for them.
All advice gratefully recieved.
Which drum on which pad?

Fav Pad layouts for Drums
Hi, Net.Fun,
My fav is to kick with my left pinky, snare with my left index, 16-beat the closed hihat with my right index and open with my right middle. Therefore, I use the bottom four pads set the way you can imagine.
[kick][snare][Closedhihat][OpenHihat]
I put my toms one line above in whatever order feels like a good run (for me it is right to left goes down in tone) and special sounds on the top row, usually crash cymbal on the upper right) Also, use alternate ports (A or B) to output alternate ride cymbals for a nice ringing/building effect instead of noteon/noteoff stomping on eachother when everything is on port A.
Good Luck,
-Geoff

hey man, i here ya ... i have spending the past few nights searching the world wide webs for the standard 16 pad layout.I thought it would be interesting to see which layouts are most popular but clearly no one else wants to share.
As to my knowledge, the Akai MPC60 set the standard ... but no where can i find a diagram.
I was going to post this question at my software's forum ... i'll keep you posted.
