Difference between 05R/W and X5DR

Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…

Hello :D

This 2 synthesizers are very similar, the Korg X5DR have more sounds.

In this web you have more sound banks for your Synth.

Thanks. Any difference in the sound? Which one is better? Does the 05RW really have the 01W engine? Has anyone tried both side by side?

Thanks

The X5DR doesn't have a B-Bank. Only - just like 05RW - 100 (user definable) combis, 100 (user definable) progs in bank A and 136 fixed GM-Sounds.

Sorry JayB:

But the X5DR have an extra Prog and Combi bank (in fact a B bank), but you can only load one of them in memory each time or make a compilation between Bank A and B.

I've used both. The 05R/W has 32 voices polyphony, and 6 MB of ROM. The X5DR has 64 voice polyphony, and 8 MB ROM. The X5DR can be set up rather easily with the combinations and programs of the 05R/W. otherwise, they are entirely identical.

By the way, yes, the 05R/W and 01/W use the same synth engine, and MOST of the same PCM Sample ROM in their programs, but the 01/W has some multisamples that the 05R/W and X5DR dont have, and vice versa. 01/W also has a waveshaping function that the other synths do not have.

You mean the "Pre-B" preset set, which are the sounds from Korg X5. The same function is included in the X5D, too. However, I don't consider it as "Bank B" as the sounds are loaded into "Bank A" again. ;)
