Issue using Korg USB-MIDI interface on Pa5X

Post by hmb1963 »

I own my Pa5X for three months now, and after switching from the Pa4X Musikant, I'm trying to get familiar with it so I can do again the things I could do with its predecessors (Pa1X, Pa2X, Pa4X).
Unfortunately, when I bought the Pa5X, I was not aware that the Quick Record function, which I often used as a basis for midi playback creation, does not exist in the Pa5X.
Since I post-process the midis with Cakewalk, I then considered recording the style play in this tool as an alternative.
I had connected my Pa4X via the Korg USB MIDI interface.
So I tried to connect the Pa5X same way.
Now, however, I had to discover that even more than a year after the Pa5X was introduced, the currently available, latest Korg USB midi driver (1.15 r49e 09/22/2022) does not include the Pa5X in the list of supported devices and, accordingly, does not recognize it during installation.
For the old MME driver mode a "Generic USB Device" is installed which seems to work halfway, the new UWP (Universal Windows Platform) driver mode shows the ports "Pa5X Keyboard" and "Pa5X Sound" as described in the manual, but they don't seem to allow the transfer of the midi controller or program changes. Only note events are transferred.
I'm not sure if it might also be a Cakewalk problem, but in Cakewalk MME mode the controller and program changes are transmitted. There are no filters set in the Pa5X MIDI I/O preset either.
Does anyone have the UWP ports running completely?
