Recording new Pads

Post by Leo Dunne »

Hello everyone
I have just joined the Forum and need some advice. No matter what I have tried I cant record my own PADS. Should I be able to do this in thePad record window....confused...maybe someone can help me.

Also I've just updated to version 3.10, but lost all my set lists in the process....everything is fine in the Database

Many thanks LeoD :D

Hi Leo

Welcome to Korg forums
If you are new to the PA4X, please go through from P240 in the manual and in particular the pages related to PAD recording.
It is important to understand the terminology and concepts first - this will help you with style recording too.
If you are still confused, please come back here and we'll give you some help.

Re 3.1.0 update (or any update) it is critical to backup your data first (to restore afterwards). If you did backup then your setlists can be reloaded form your backup SET.

Again, let us know if you need some help

Cheers

Pete :D

Try Youtube. Seems like I recall a pad creation video or two.

This one is not in English but it's not hard to follow, especially if you have read the manual and already tried on your own. Might be enough to identify whatever problem you are having.

I am still no further in my quest to recording PADs
The manual brings you to the main Pad screen. but doesn't say a word about how to enter the record mode. The next item after the `main PAD record screen,,,,is how to exit....nothing about how to enter Record phase

I am really hoping that someone can shed some light on the subject

I'm afraid no marks to KORG an this issue,

Regards

Press Record. Quickly. If you hold it, MP3 record screen will come up. Once in the record screen the PAD heading will be on the right. Choose EDIT or NEW.

Although there are HIT and SEQUENCE pads, they are all basically just a single track style so if you find a style record or edit tutorial, you should be able to record a pad. Again, there are several very detailed tutorials available on Youtube.

Sorry if I am not understanding your issue.

Leo - Press start. Not trying to be smart here but once you are in the pad record screen, that's all that's left. Once you press start, you should here a metronome count-in and then the CV will begin to loop - in record mode - for whatever length is set for that CV.

Again, sorry if I am misunderstanding.

As you may have gathered , I am a big fan of "PADs", and now that I know how to make them, I am very busy doing so. However I can't understand why KORG does not allow the PAD settings to be memorised.
The PADs themselves are memorised but not the Volume and Pan detail.

This makes things very awkward and can make the PADs unusable on the fly.....having to go into PAD switches to make adjustments is a big pain.

Does anyone know of a way around this problem. It doesn't make sense to me maybe KORG could address this issue in some future updates.

LeoD :)

parameters of pads are memorised in its settings

All its settings are memorised. In Menue Pads/Assign. Switches parameters Volume and Panorama are available for each pad, as well as a 3-band equalizer and “Master 1, 2 and 3” for enrichment with the master effects (FX A).

Any change to these parameters is saved and memorised in the setting in which it is used (style, songbook ..). And that is the same as it is done with styles - its setting parameters not only are saved with its sequences, but most important also with its settings, allowing to use these sequences in different settings with different parameter values.
kind regards

Siebenhirter,
First let me thank you for responding to my post, espscially since you had good news for me. However I am not out of the woods yet,
as I can't get the result I'm looking for.

I spent a day programming PADS. as you sugested from "Style play:PADS /assign Switches" but The system is not memorising the settings, When I've finished programming I write to songbook as you would with any Style set ups. I purposely set each Pan to 50left and 50 right for the first 2 Pads and 20 left and 20 right for Pads 3&4 so that I could see what was happening,

It seems to me that volume is defaulting to 127, while the Pan settings varies a lot. I guess I must be doing something wrong , but I've no idea what. You're advice would be most helpful.

Thank You

@Leo Dunne,
Choose your style and (shortcut) Shift+ Pad (1,2,3 or 4) button, it opens the window for editing your Pads.
After editing your Pads you should save/write it with your Style.

From user manual:

Hope that helps.

BR,
I have tried your suggestion, but it doesn't solve the problem....there must be something else going on that eludes me. I've tried everything I know but to no avail. The confusing thing is that all of the PADs are memorised correctly, but the system has a mind of it;s own when it comes to remembering the Vol and Pan settings. If this system works for others then it should work for me. There must be something I am doing wrong but I;m damned if I know what.

I await your comments thanks

Hi Leo,
Sorry to hear that.
Just FYI, if you are editing a Factory Style (volume, pan, pads,vetc...), in order to save your editing,
you need first to copy/past the style in one of the available (empty) Favorite or User slot and then do your editing and save /write the style.

Hope that helps.
