Is there a true midi virtual patchbay technique/technology?

Talk about non-Korg Synthesizers/Keyboards and the whole synthesizer world in general.

Is there a true midi virtual patchbay technique/technology?

Post by wpostma »

I have this dream where I:

1. bought an 8x8 (8 midi in, 8 midi out) usb device.

2. it had an app where you could basically configure any kind of in/out patchbay configuration you wanted.

3. it worked so that all my synths can talk to and from my daw, but more importantly, I could also have my synths talk to each other, via patchbay like reconfiguration. Today I want my Yamaha DX7 to be a master controller talking to my triton, and tomorrow I want it the reverse but I don't want to re-cable everything. I just want to press a button and boom.

4. For bonus points, just before I woke up there was this feature in my dream midi 8x8 usb thingy that also let me rewrite midi traffic as it passes through the system. For example, converting midi CC to custom midi sysex so I can do things in realtime like editing my korg Triton patch volume levels from a midi controller, via midi sysex patch editing messages.

I know. dream on right?

Closest would probably be this...

https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/ ... tmidi4plus

it only has connections for 4 devices through 5-pin DIN MIDI, but addresses up to 8 additional MIDI devices over USB.

The MOTU MIDI Express should cover most of the hoped-for functionality.
