Need Help with RAM Upgrade

Post by Arash »

Hello: I just upgraded my Pa3X RAM to 256 and everything sounds funny. Is the New RAM bad or I need to do additional steps. I'll be thankful for your collective advises.

Hi Arash
There should be nothing else required but I would strongly recommend that you "re-seat" the RAM chip.
Always make sure you use an ASD (anti-Static device) when working inside these machines as static from your body can cause major problems.

I would suggest this approach (keeping power cord removed when working inside it):-
1. Remove the RAM and close the cover (no need to put all screws back yet but take care)
2. Test that the PA3X works fine without the RAM (if not, you have a different problem) then remove power cord
3. Re-seat the RAM
4. Power back on and test the PA3X
5. Replace the cover and screw down

Cheers and good luck with it

Pete :D

(P.S. ASD straps are cheap or an ASD mat - at worst make sure you "ground" yourself first)

Hi Pete: I think there is something wrong with the chip. my pa sounds ok without any Ram. When I go to Sound>Recording>sample there is ) memory where is with the original I have some 89 MB of RAM. Therefore, I think there is something wrong with the chip and I have to send it back. Than you for your help, I started with a Pa800 and then switched to Pa3X. and i know most of you wonderful guys since 2004.

When you install the ram do the factory styles play wrong too?
If yes then ram is most probably faulty as you said..
Try inserting the original ram module again and check if it is ok too!

Hi Guys: THX for responding you all are wonderful. Per advice from you guys, my Pa sounded good without the RAM and also with the original RAM. Therefore, the new upgrade is defective and I have to get another one. Here is where I order it on internet. THX again.

I haven't seen any original ram modules to be defective so maybe the one you bought is a clone version? There are kinda known to be faulty some times from new..

Well if it works the first time i personally haven't seen any fail later (at least not yet)..The problem seems to be the different chip that is used on clones and the lower quality PCB...
