Roland - new gear??

Post by karmathanever »

I don't ever like starting "rumours" however I have been told by a very reliable source that Roland are about to release the VR09 combo in a 73 note waterfall configuration and also a new version of their D50.

Anyone else across this???

Yep - suspected that reaction

I get niggled by silly rumours and would never be part of them although they are often in fun.
This information was not me trying to be funny - I will follow it up tomorrow as I believe there is a web reference relating to this.
Announcement dates for these keyboards are both this month - the VR09 in a week's time
This was all very briefly and seriously mentioned to me today
(I will confirm tomorrow from my contact who is directly involved in keyboard retail and distribution)

Was seriously wanting to know if anyone else had heard anything about this....

(Maybe I'll end up with egg on my face but I can take it  )

Cheers

Who knows with Roland they seem happy to piss all over their own legacy - calling the all digital Jupiter 80 a Jupiter was an insult to the original analog machines. Maybe the D50 will be the analog synth everyone is waiting for lol

The D50 is already available as a VST/AU from Roland Cloud - I suspect it's next in line for Boutique treatment.

There's also supposed to be a new System 8 Plug-Out this month - probably the JX3P, although I'd rather have the mono Plug-Outs updated for polyphony.

The D50 will not come to system 8 however, its not an acb but a dcb plug... it requires more ram..

Thats why i expect some Roland workstation supporting both these plug types...and having th elatest SN sounds as well as V-plugs (from their V instruments)

Might be the big news at Namm, who knows..

The orriginal post, could very well be true, with all the fuzz about the high quallity D-50 plug..

Up thru 6 yrs ago, I always had Roland in my rig. While I also believe in simplification, I noticed that some Roland gear had some fatal flaw. Poor sounding organs is 1 example.

I believe in solid user testing for a month on a Roland product before having some interest.

Hi,

Two new Roland digital organs on the 12th.
New Ateliers ?
Classical organs ?
Drawbar clones ?

Interesting !!

The D05 has been released, the revival of the D50 in Boutique format.
I think we may see in the not so distant future a revival of the V-synth as well.

With ACB and now DCB Roland is developing modeling technologies which the company is able to implement in bigger synths while making money in the development process by releasing them in the affordable Boutique format.
They may be small and look like toys, but they sell, and if they sell well they provide the cashflow which allow for the development of bigger and more expensive synths, so I'm quite forgiving when it comes to the Boutique form factor.

No surprises about the D05 then... But I'm concerned about the lack of any further developements on the System 8 Plug-Out side of things
. Roland keep promising more, but there's been nothing - I fear it's going the same way as the Fantom G.
