DX7 Breath Control Patches to Kronos

Post by degaffman »

Has anyone messed with converting DX7 breath control patches? I loved playing those on my DX7 years ago, but they don't respond to breath control properly when imported into the Kronos. The DX7 had an EG bias setting you could switch on that allowed the breath controller to drive the oscillator output levels (modulators and carriers) or drive the envelope levels (I'm not sure which - I'd guess the later). The EG bias is not present in the Kronos.

There's no AMS for an Oscillators input or output level but you can route the oscillator to one of the 3 oscillator mixers first before sending it to modulate another oscillator. There's also AMS on all the envelope rates and levels - but I've had a little better luck messing with the oscillator levels than with the EG rates/levels.

Any advice for converting DX7 BC patches would be appreciated.

You may have to physically make the custom edits..
This little gadget will help send the appropriate breathcontroller midi data to the Kronos.
