Kaoss Quad looper option - how much sample memory?

Post by Djeroek »

Hello,

I'm considering buying a second hand Kaoss pad quad version for around 80,- euro's which seems like good value for money to me, but am not sure how much recording time the 'looper' option offers, can anyone tell me? :)

All the review video's I see loop around 4 beats = 1 bar amount of sound, and I hope getting more sample time out of it.

Also, is it possible to re-record the output for overdubbing kind of layering effects?

Cheers,

R

Ok, found this old post ( http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... light=quad ) where Bowmoney mentions the recording time is about 4 beats..

but...4 beats @ 80 bpm is twice as longs as recording 4 beats @ 160, right? So is it possible to set your own bpm value as a way/trick to record longer looper phrases? :)

Hi Djeroek,
I've not used the Quad ,but on the other machines its about a bar.
But its not a sampler like that as such and does shorter stutter type repeats really.
The longest is about 1 bar at 74 BPM. Any shorter and the memory halfs its time. There is a bit of wiggle room when experimenting with tempo , but the looper effect is very much about stutters and repeats.
Seems a great price for any type of KP.
4 effects at once should be fun, but to re-record you will need something else to record to,then rebounce back through the machine. It seems like some of your features you are after belong to the KP3 which can sample then re sample itself internally. Its a proper sampler of the Kaoss variety.

Thanks for the additional info Spheric, I was hoping to get a little bit more recording time out of it then 1 bar even though I know it's not really a sampler.

My idea was to use such device live in between loading project files in my daw, also do the occasional live effects of course, but be able to record a bit from a song, loop it, load another songfile and gradually blend this with the loop that is repeating for a smooth transition.

Should be possible even with this bare minimum of 4 beats...

Yes, should be possible very much so.
You can freeze any of the four effects. Delays can feedback an stuff.

i know what you are suggesting...but with the kaoss quad you get max 4 beats, regardless of tempo...whatever tempo is set at the moment you touch the pad, you can get 4 beats from there...
