I'm trying out a DAW (Reaper) for the first time and would like to use my kronos as the controller. I'm using standard midi cables plugged into an interface, but I'm getting no signal or sound in my DAW. It seems that Reaper isn't recognizing the Kronos in any way. Although audio recording is working fine.
What I would like to know is what midi settings to make on the kronos so it sends the midi data out. I'm guessing there's more to it than Global>MIDI>Local Control off.
Also, I know there is a driver for usb-midi but nothing for straight midi connectors?
This is totally new to me, so any help is appreciated.
Kronos as midi controller

The MIDI cables should go Kronos MIDI OUT to interface MIDI IN, and Kronos MIDI IN to interface MIDI OUT. Kronos should send MIDI data on its MIDI OUT port by default. Have the settings been changed and do other MIDI keyboards work in this situation?
As an alternative, if the Kronos is connected to the computer via its USB-B port, it will act as a MIDI keyboard via that route, amongst other things. Install the Korg drivers first, to get the most out of it.
In either case, Reaper will need to be set up to accept MIDI from the appropriate source, and to send it to the right place, too.

Thanks for your reply. I've got the midi cables hooked up correctly. I have no other keyboard hooked up. I'm not using the usb port. I'm not sure if reaper is set up correctly to receive, but I'm just wanting to make sure the kronos is set up properly and therein lies the problem - not sure what settings need to be made such as in global mode.voip wrote:The MIDI cables should go Kronos MIDI OUT to interface MIDI IN, and Kronos MIDI IN to interface MIDI OUT. Take a look at the Reaper quickstart guide:
http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaperQuickstart
At the very least, the MIDI interface will need to have the correct drivers installed, so the computer can "see" it. If the Reaper MIDI devices page in the preferences window doesn't list the interface, then this needs to be rectified first.
Secondly Reaper will need a sound source e.g. synth installed as a VST and selected as an active instrument.

Thanks voip. In reaper preferences, under Audio Device my interface is listed and is functioning properly when recording audio from my keyboard.voip wrote:Take a look at the Reaper quickstart guide:

But under MIDI Devices neither the kronos or the interface is listed.
Under both midi in and midi out it says "disabled", but no hardware is listed.
*edit*
Just enabled the midi device and it's now working. Thank you so much for your help voip, you were spot on.
