Pa4x vs Tyros 5 (youtube video)

Post by Bachus »

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjKsdWBV4Nk

Good video clearly showing of the differences in soun, the sound of the PA4x.. esp[escially when styles are used it seems a little more realistic.. tough i think that can only be heared in a direct comparrisson.. Tough where they use the freeplay stylepart with the strings on the T5, it shows some of the strengths of the T5.. The piano of the pa4x is almost on par with the Kronos, but that has 5 of them,,, drums and styles really will make the pa4x sell

Some of the strong points of the T5 didnt make the video, SA2 voices, organ world and ensemble for excample..

In the end, i would be happy with both, tough there is no reason to change from t5 to pa4x, the differences except for the piano can only be heared in a direct comparisson.. and when i do a feature comparrison, the T5 still has some things to offer over the pa4x when it comes to options... where the pa4x has the better controll options

I dare call this a draw?

Well the T5 does look like the bridge console of the Star Trek Enterprise. I thought the T5 pipe organ was more dynamic sounding than the Pa4x, the strings a draw and the rest favored the Pa4x. It is as if the samples on the Pa4x have more information in them which creates more character and nuance. More complete sound. The T5 has some things not featured like ensemble, but the price difference does not come close to justifying the T5. Pa4x a winner overall. 8)

I personally find these 'comparisons' by A & C Hamilton to be pretty meaningless. Neither keyboard is shown in its best light. Given the the paucity of in depth control on the Tyros 5 I don't think it's worth the $1500 premium (USA pricing) I do however like some features on the Tyros, the Ensemble being at the top of the list. However, the built-in sampling and voice editing features in the PA4X trumps all. ;-)

I might be tempted at ~US$2000 but the PA900 would still be a better deal in my opinion.

Yes, this is another story, but when telling always the TYROS is more expensive, THIS IS NOT TRUE, those who prefer YAMAHA, they can get it at the same price with a little negotiation

I had the TYROS-5, just didn't liked it,

The Tyros sounds like plastic, it has no soul.

PA3X was better already, PA4X even more.

Not a competition to my ears; PA4X is better in every sound, sample and style.

When I see a Tyros 5 in a shop, I do enjoy hopping onboard and playing around with it, but I could never seriously consider buying one for 3 reasons.

1: There's no justification for the huge price tag at all.
2: It's built from plastic, like any other cheap home keyboard.
3: No touch screen in the year 2015 is caveman like.

Regards
Sharp.

But overhere in Europe you can, payed €3500 for the T5, including a 2gb expansion...

I dont think you can get the newly released pa4x for that kind of money overhere...

I can name atleast 10 major features that would make the pa4x and even the Kronos blass...

Tough that would work both ways.... As Korg also has some major things under their belt.

1. This is your opinion... In my vision and country its on par with pa4x and in the same pricerange
2. I do agree.... Yamaha choice of matterials for the casing is very doubtfull, its build as a homekeyboard, where korg builds their instruments for stage use.
3. While i do agree, T5 should have had a touchscreen, in the cvp series Yamaha shows how to make a great touchscreen interface, but one needs to admit that the T5 interface works like a charm for people that have been playing tyros for a decade.. And that is their main customer group.

Yes it's only my opinion.

That being said, in “my opinion” the Tyros 5 should be at least 1000 Euro cheaper than the Pa4X because it's built from the same materials as the cheap home keyboard ranges. Plastic, lots of it. And it's not as technically advance as the Pa4X.

Yamaha keybeds also feel cheap compaired to the beds KORG are buying in from FATAR. Makes me wonder, are Yamaha the only ones making their own at this point as everyone else seems to be using different FATAR models.
2. I do agree.... Yamaha choice of matterials for the casing is very doubtfull, its build as a homekeyboard, where korg builds their instruments for stage use.
Which should be reflected in the price, but it's not.
3. While i do agree, T5 should have had a touchscreen, in the cvp series Yamaha shows how to make a great touchscreen interface, but one needs to admit that the T5 interface works like a charm for people that have been playing tyros for a decade.. And that is their main customer group.
Yes, but surly it's time to move on. It's the likes of Yamaha who give Arrangers a dirty name as keyboards for old people when they are for people of all ages. It also doesn't help when Yamaha do tours of old folks homes as their first port of call. I actually find this disgusting as it's like trying to shoot fish in a barrel.

KORG on the other hand are blurring the lines between workstations and arrangers because they are so advanced. KORG Arrangers are “Cool”. Yamaha's are not.

Yes, everyone can do better, but Yamaha are dragging their rear end big time.

Again, just my opinion.
