Usually, I agree with you Antony, but here, your experience differs from mine.

I have written complete tutorials on my website on the issue, and there are free programs out there that enable you to clone the SSD without any great difficulty. Mind you, the explanations are in French, so not very useful to most of us here.

Anyway, after trying many programs, I ended up recommending:

- For cloning : Clonezilla Live or EaseUS Disk Copy Home
- For extending partitions : GParted Live or EaseUS Partition Master Home

http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/home-edition/
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm
http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

Other software were hit and miss (True Image worked well under XP but failed under W7) or complete waste of time (MiniTools Partition Wizard or Ghost 15). I was annoyed to have wasted the cost of registering MiniTools, whilst Ghost was a freebie that came with the Samsung SSD I bought.

After using True Image for many years to back up my work PC, I was disappointed to see that it wouldn't work properly when trying with a W7 machine. Yet, my old laptop running XP produced perfect images of the original 30 Gb SSD every time. Mind you, I didn't buy the latest version of True Image to check if this issue remained, as I found that free utilities could do just as good a job.

For those interested in my findings, maybe Google Translate can give you the gist of the article.

Secondly, and most importantly, a restore DVD with 2.0.2 is very much needed. The reason is simple:

Only OS 2.0.2 and later can format a drive that is bigger than 128 Gb. So if you only have the OS 1 restore DVDs and you want to install a 256 Gb SSD inside your Kronos, the only option you have is to clone the original drive and extend the partition. If you try to format that drive with the OS 1 restore DVDs, the procedure will hang, whilst OS 2 will happily format the drive before installing the system on it. Or, you simply add the 256 Gb drive as the second drive, install OS1 on the old drive, install OS 2, then format the 256 Gb drive.

Personally, I'd be quite happy to have a OS 2.0.2 minimum restore DVD set, just in case I have to change my SSD.

Finally, you are right to say that having a cloned drive ready to roll is a useful solution, particularly if you take your Kronos on the road and do lots of gigs. But given the expense and a home-studio use only, for me it would be an overkill to buy another 256 Gb SSD to merely keep a cloned copy.

I was missed that OS 1.6 restore DVDs can't format SSDs > 128 Gb, since I always format them externally, sounds insane
for any utility of our days not to be able to format a Media < 1 TB but if you say so . I totally agree with your point.

The main reason is that I will never use SSD Bigger than 128 Gb , since 80 Gb is the outstanding limit for 55 Gb
of streamed user samples , consider that in my commercial collection of mixed 19 Gb the initial 30 Gb SSD
is enough , and Kronos is not a storage media ! we have PC or Mac for that !

The above Utilities you mentioned including Acronis Pro 2013 , managed to make an ISO in Win7- 8 platform I work with , but all
failed to restore properly the ISO to a working bootable state and I made it manually , but when I tried CloneZila I've made in a bootable
USB stick , worked like a charm , I keept that second back-up , but FileZilla seems somehow complex to suggest it for an ordinary user !
Another good point is a bootable USB Stick I made with restore DVDs , and I suggest trying it , since you seem experienced !

Finally feel free to disagree with me , since always something we miss regardless to how experienced we are !

Update : Acronis 2013 finally managed successfully to create a bootable clone of SSD
but the essential adjustment was to be copied to a whole natural disk (not partition) and the ideal
software for extending any Linux format partition for PC is Paragon Partition Manager Pro 2012 !

I would expect the power supply to go wrong much sooner on the Kronos than the SSD. If I were going anywhere remote, I would have one of those as well.

I'm doing a full install from my DVD's now, they are installer version 2.0.2

I have the ISO's zipped into 700mb chunks (although they weren't compressed much at all), I am willing to spend the time needed to upload to this site if Sharp allows, alternatively, I can sent them to Sharp for him to do, providing he returns them with some sort of trackable/signed for post.

I've had one PM already asking me if I could make and send DVD's out which I am fully prepared to do but I can see this being requested more and more, so a more permanent solution would be better.

Or if anyone knows of a site where around 11GB can be uploaded free of charge that doesn't delete them after a few weeks, I could go that route, but hosted on this site would be better.

best

Hi Ojustaboo.
The server KORG gave only allowes for a full remote login from Windows. No FTP access at all, so I can't share my login details. It's not setup as a proper HOST at all.

Remote login uploads are painfully slow, and I always get disconnected over about 1 hour. So I can only upload something in rar chunks of 100MB each.

So I'd really need the actual disks to rip, rar and verify them at the size I break everything apart at.

If your willing to post them over to me, I'll have them on their way back to you the same day.
Or if anyone knows of a site where around 11GB
11GB ?
Is that uncompressed, or rared ?

I have more than enough space, but if it's 11GB compressed, it would take forever to upload that to the server without FTP. This remote login I have to use is painful and annoying.

Regards
Sharp.

Hi Sharp

DVD 1 is 5.17 GB uncompressed .img file (created from DVD by Imgburn)
DVD 2 is 6.57 GB uncompressed .img

I zipped them using 7-zip on it's default compression settings and it created the following

For DVD 1

Seven 700MB files
One 402MB file

For DVD 2

Eight 700MB files
one 615MB file

So it's hardly compressed them at all.

I'm happy to send you the DVDs

As I have the disk img on my PC (and a further backup of my PC) if I did need to restore my Kronos urgently, I could burn them myself so getting them back to me instantly is not a priority.

Strange they didn't compress much. I would certainly like to give this ago myself, so if you don't mind, I'll PM you my postal address.

Promise to get them back to you straight away.

Thanks.

russ2246 Links are sent to you.

FYI , those DVDs have been uploaded for my personal usage only , into members server I belong , there was
no sharing intention and just offered to help robbinhood when asked for ,or anybody else that asked for
help and I ensure you that all received password to download My DVDs.
Anyway anybody else that need them can freely E-mail me and ask for links, except those ungrateful who hate
passwords , and they can freely Upload 10 Gbs to their server and share their contents as they like !

AntonySharmman,

I received an PM notification this morning, I went to check the messages but had nothing.. weird (?) My guess is was from you since I am new here LOL. Thanks for taking the time to respond, and sorry I didn't got it... If you need my email let me know....

Just following up on this to see if anyone has uploaded the factory dvds somewhere. I have a Kronox X with version 2.0.2 and I've lost my factory dvds. Don't have a current need for them, but want to have them available should I need to reload the factory data or OS.

I called Korg and asked if I could buy the Disks and they told me that they don't sell them and that I can not order them from Korg either. The solution that they presented me with is to go to Guitar Center and have them order the disks for me? So anyway I went to Guitar Center and they told me that they cannot order the disks for me and that they do not sell them either but that I could order them from Korg? I bought the Kronos used from Guitar Center around a month ago and it came without the disks and I guess I'm screwed too. I certainly hope it never has any problems or I'm going to have a $2500 paperweight...

Sharp is putting them on this sites download section

If not I might be able to find somewhere else to host them, another korg forum member offered FTP space to host them and I could always go that route?

Yes, just a matter of time and upload bandwidth. I have 3 girls in my house who love YouTube and who also have no concept at all what a 30GB a month limit on our internet connection means.
