RonF - Yeah man!

I'm a guitarist - only. I have my share of keyboardy things for my friends who come over and throw down. Your keyboard setup is beautiful (but I really LOVE your floors!). My guitar room is similar (I've attached my 12-string guitars >>only<< photo and my current studio room PRE-KRONOS 88Key - on the way). Check the classic DDD-1 Drum Machine w/Sampling Board!

Thank you for sharing. Really beautiful floors!

Seeing your composing setups, gives me incentive to get my music room done. That way I can connect all my hardware at the same time. That way it's all available for compositions when needed.

So I love the guitars in that photo, but what are those funny gizmos with the metal bits under the strings?

Awesome set up, bro! Wow...you got 5 keyboards on that A-Frame stand! U must have harvested some extra parts from another stand to do it (thats what I did on mine). Is it stable? Looks tight, but just like my room, every inch of space is at a premium! Must be fun playing and programming your little phaty while laying on your belly! (or might you be using SoundTower!).

I should know this, but cannot make it out...what is the hardware DAW on the table to the lower left of this pic? :D

Hi Shap.

I will admit right here in front of everyone that my comprehension of your comment is on a bit of a "time release" roll out (i.e. - I don't get what you mean and I'm sure it's something simple).

Thanks for the positive look on my geetars.

I may have messed up my count. I counted five acoustic guitars and five, well, five electrified things with strings. So when you said you were a guitarist I got a little confused. :P

Just making a dumb joke. Check my sig. I am mostly acoustic, but if Brian Moore doesn't ring a bell for you, try this link.

Yes the A frames are a bit of a mish mash of several units,(Infact there is 6 tiers not 5  )I basically used the parts to construct my own frame to suit the Studio, they are pretty sturdy,I reinforced the left hand frame which holds the Oasys,as the single tiers are no way near sturdy enough as a single shelf to hold the Oasys,(infact the Moog Voyager is a little bit on the rocky side on a single tier given its weight although its never fell or moved)the Oasys I basically put on the bottom of the frame with 2 poles to support it front and back, works fine for me..

As for the Phatty, yes it was a bit awkward to edit given its low position, well thats now been sold, infact this pic was taken a few months ago,I have since sold a couple of things and acquired a Fantom G6,and the DAW,well thats a Korg D16XD,one of the best standalone hardware Audio recorders ever made IMHO,infact I never understood why Korg made the Audio recorder section in the the Oasys and the Kronos so alien in terms of operational and ease of use as these D series machines they designed...

I'm a hardware animal through and through, don't use a computer program whatsoever for making music anymore, although I have a pc in the studio (hence dual monitors)and many software for doing so,sometimes dabble with Reason/Record but very rarely nowadays)I never found a stable system, having grown up on hardware like the immediacy of switching on and recording,Reason is in some ways close to it but its still far too sterile for me growing up with hardware sequencers)plus I much prefer to sequence with a hardware machine as opposed to using a mouse, I prefer to sequence in a semi live way, something I never found worked for me on software like the MPC and MV type sequencers environment, plus I'm really digging the Fantom G sequencer at the moment.

RonF,

1) How are you supporting the Kronos at an angle? It looks like you have a normal desk.

2) Same question for the NI Maschine; it looks like it is at an angle.

Thanks.

The desk is an Argosy Dual 15K, which has a multi level/shelf design. I have enhanced it by adding some platforms to some of the shelves. So in the pic you see....from top to bottom, an upper shelf which holds my line mixer and audio monitors, down to a mid platform which holds my dual computer monitors, down to another shelf where the Kronos sits, down to a low shelf where the Virus sits. The back edge of the Kronos is propped up on the edge of the platform which holds the computer monitors, and the front edge of the Kronos is sitting on the shelf below it....but I positioned it so the lower shelf touches the bottom of the Kronos a few inches behind its front edge.....causing the keyboard to extend over the shelf edge by a few inches for an unobstructed playing angle. The Kronos therefore sits at about a 40 degree angle, and its just perfect, in particular for viewing the Kronos screen. Where ever the Kronos touches the desk, I used a very sticky flat rubber material (its intended use for your cell phone in your car, on your dash for example, and it kind of grabs your cell phone so it wont slide around. No actual adhesive at all....just VERY tacky rubber), which acts not only as an anchor for the keyboard so it wont slide, but also as a protector, and shock absorber. Works perfectly and is VERY stable. To ensure the Kronos will not slide under any circumstances (even though the rubber seems to grab it firmly), I removed one small factory screw from the back (bottom) of the Kronos case (and taped it to the Kronos bottom so I won't loose it), and replaced it with an eyelet with the same thread size. Then I attached a small bungie cord (with hooks on each end) to the back of the Kronos, and its anchored to another eyelet screwed into the desk. I do live San Diego, so earthquakes can and do happen!

The NI Maschine, Radias, Tetra, and Eventide Space, are all attached to a DJ Laptop Stand that I have rigged to hold all of those items using: the original 2 tier stand, some large PVC pipe that I have cut to size, some large zip ties which hold it together, and some 2 sided adhesive 3M tape. All in all, its solid as a rock, and holds all of those items at around a 45 degree angle. Each individual piece of gear is fairly light, so its easy to attach with the zip ties and two sided tape.

How I missed that was a Korg D16XD I don't know. My mind was in Roland and Akai territory for some reason. And how I can't seem to count to 6 is REALLY disturbing.....but who knows what I was drinking at the time! :D

Thanks for the explanation. I love your set up! I too am a big hardware over software guy. I would actually love to hear more about your thoughts on the Fantom G sequencer. I also have the Fantom G, and have some likes and dislikes about it. Granted, this is not the place for that discussion....so PM me if you like, my friend! Thanks!

I took a quick dirty shot just to get one logged in the thread. I'm building a new studio soon and will give appropriate pics then. There are a few things missing (non-Korg stuff mainly - Fender Rhodes, a couple accordions, a couple controllers, and guitars). To stay with the spirit of the thread, I will not be taking pics of all my guitars...

Daaaaaaaaaag. Didn't mean offend! I guess my RADIAS, Legacy Collection, and pre-88 key KRONOS wasn't received well. I'm just a geetar man with a a few cool synths that I wanted to share. I'll post pictures of my KRONOS when I receive it.

Nah, it wasn't that. I have like 30ish and it would technically be off topic unless I could find a way to cram them all the pic with the Kronos.

Yea, your pics are great and your guitars are cool. No worries! I love studio pics....gives ideas for ergonomics and can be very inspiring. Keep em coming....guitars and all.....
