There is a great free FCB1010 editor (for PC) - see:- https://secure.mtnsys.com/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm
BUT...
...I also have the EC5 because it can do several things that the FCB1010 (or any other MIDI pedal) cannot do....
I strongly recommend the EC5.

I have not bought either one yet. What can the EC5 do that the FCB1010 can't? I specifically need one or the other for live gigging using the arranger functions

Bob
Bob,
See the assignable functions section of the Pa800 or Pa2x User manual, which shows the differences. There are some functions that can be assigned to EC5 switches that are not available from MIDI (ie via the FCB1010). Also the EC5 is much easier to set up.
For your purpose (live gigging using the arranger functions) I would recommend the EC5 in the first instance.
Yes I also have the Korg EC5 and as Pete notes it is multi functional and a must have. In regards to your inquiry regarding the use of an expression pedal to skew or bend a sax or guitar note ~
To do this, I also use the Yamaha FC7 pedal which is heavy and stays put on the floor. I assign it to -X. then I hammer sharp off the note to obtain the + while pushing down on the pedal to flatten the pitch. It is very effective. However the pedal does not return to ‘0’ automatically so I use a vacuum cleaner rubber driver belt wrapped around the heal of the pedal so that it always returns to “0” other wise you can end up with the pedal accidentally positioned out of key. The rubber belt assures that it will always returns it’s position to ‘0” when you let up on it
The Yamaha EC7 currently costs $49.99 thru Musician’s Friend
So I plug in the EC5 to EC5 on the back of the keyboard
The piano damper pedal to “damper “
The FC7 goes to the “assign” plug which is between the other two.
But remember you must program i.e. assign the keyboard to use the FC7 as instructed by Kjeld
Sorry ~ I mistakenly directed my last post to jassmamal's attention when I meant it for solomusiker2002 or anyone else who may be interested in using an expression pedal for Pitch Control.
Not to worry Charlie, I'm reading all this with interest anyway. I'm one of those players who likes to use as many parts of my keyboard rig live as possible. The players I work with really appreciate the fact that I don't just play piano all night. I will take guitar solos, horn solos, use special effects, all kinds of stuff.
Rob, the thing about the EC5 vs the FCB1010 is 5 vs 10 switches plus the 2 expression pedals on the 1010. There is not room to use both at once and one switch is needed for a piano damper pedal which is why I'm leaning toward the 1010 because that only leaves 4 switches for the EC5. I'm just curious if there's a really cool feature that you like for live work that cannot be accessed via midi. At first glance, all the important arranger functions seem to be available with the 1010 and the expression pedals can do filter sweeps, mix volume, lots of good stuff.
Some EC5 settings (not programmable via MIDI pedal) are:-
Ensemble toggle
Style track muting
Chord-latch
Mic functions
Rotary speaker control
Text paging
DNC sound controller
The function of the EC5 are on page 320 and the MIDI functions are on page 324-325 in the latest PA2XPro user manual
Cheers

Sigh. Nothing, absolutely nothing regarding synths or midi works as it should the first time. I bought the FCB pedal used. I experimented with hitting the different switches to put the pedal in different modes and the lights all work and it seems to work properly. I downloaded that PC program to set it up. I'm using midi channel 16 for both the pedal and the Korg control channel. I programmed all 10 switches plus both expression pedals, created and saved a new sysex file. I tramsmitted the file to the pedal. Switched the midi cables from my PC to the Korg and guess what?? Absolutely nothing happened! Amazing how that works, isn't it? I have no way of knowing if that sysex file was actually received by the pedal or not except the manual says the #7 pedal light stops flashing when it's done which it did after about 15 seconds or so. Great but I can hit any switch or move either pedal and nothing happens. It just kills me how everything is a struggle setting stuff like this up. I spent hours and hours this last Saturday trying to do this for a gig I had on Sunday. I triple checked everything, the midi channel, the sysex file, the cables. Fuggetaboutit. If there's not something obvious one of you guys can tell me, the next thing is to program it the old fashioned way on the pedal itself I guess. Any ideas?
I've used a yamaha volume/expression pedel for a long time, much easier. Assign the joystick controls to the assignable pedal, simple, you can only bend up or down not both. The old i30 used to have two assignable ports. I used two pedals one for up (Guitars) and the other for win instruments. (Down)
