Is it safe to leave your Kronos on?
I'm considering getting a used Kronos. I keep hearing about how long it takes to boot up.
Does it have a "standby" mode, where I can walk away for a couple of hours, then come back & get right to work? Or would it just stay fully powered up for the time I'm away?

There is no standby mode, as such. The Kronos will be fine, even if left on 24/7, if need be. The instrument tends to consume slightly less power when not being played. I measured a power consumption of 33W, when the Kronos is idle.

It is OK to leave it on with temperature between 5 to 40°C with no condensation. Avoid direct sunlight. Of course, the LCD screen and other components will consume their lifetime despite not being used, which is not necessarily a good idea. In any case, make sure to protect your unit with a decent UPS.

The Kronos 3's start-up time is quicker than the older versions. If it were at all possible, consider an upgrade and add a UPS to protect the unit from power fluctuations.
I... myself ...would be hesitant to operate the unit when temperatures exceed 90*F. Heat is an enemy of electronics.

It has no standby mode. When it's not summer here in Spain, I usually power up my Kronos 2 on Friday afternoons and switch it off on Sunday night so it's always ready for doing any stuff. It's been like that for 4-5 years. The thing is I prefer this way to avoid mechanical fatigue on the power switch itself.thunderkyss wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 3:10 pm I'm considering getting a used Kronos. My church's Nautilus AT has a timer that will automatically turn the unit off if it has been idled. I suspect that the Kronos also has that timer.

My Kronos 2 has been on 24/7/365 in my studio since 2017 when I bought it and I've had zero issues with it. The only time it gets shut off is if I'm on a planned vacation of a week or more. So it's probably been off for a total of 35 weeks in 8 years.
