Chorus and Vibrato Effects

Post by keyboardbill »

I'm trying to get B3 Chorus and Vibrato effects more pronounced. I'm able to get to the C1/C2/C3 and V1/V2/V3 options but no matter what I do the effect is minimal.

Here are a few screen shots that show the C1/C2/C3 and V1/V2/V3 options (highlighted) and can change using the rotary dial but can't get it to sound any where close to the B3.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bill

Hello Bill,
If using control mode PRESET it is a mistake to believe that highlighted options of the preset types C1 ... V3 can be seen. These preset types have fixed options that you cannot change with the exception of parameter Wet/Dry.
*
a)
If you want to hear the effect of the preset effects, following setting is recommend:
Use a dry organ sound on an upper track - ideally drawbars without leakage/KeyOn/KeyOff.
In the MixerTuning menu, activate "Dry" for this upper track so that you can reliably check the effect of this effect on the organ sound in the "MasterEffects" menu. There, the difference between Vib/Chorus on/off is objectively audible as soon as the "MOD: Organ/VibChorus" effect is alternately changed from Wet to Dry.

b)
If you want to hear the differences in the preset options of the preset types C1 ... V3 without changing the effect parameter "PresetType", I recommend setting the preset parameters of PresetType to Src=JS+Y and Amt to +5 (or any other value than zero) in order to listen to the different preset types via the joystick.

c)
If you need "more effective" parameters than those available in the Preset types, it is necessary to set the control mode to "Custom" and then experiment with the changeable - and also effective - parameters Custom Mix/Depth/Speed.

The effect of the parameters will be controlled/audible with same setting a) above (active Dry in MixerTuning, wet/dry alternately changed in MasterEffects).
kind regards

Mr. Siebenhirter, thanks again for your suggestions. I tried all of them and I did hear an improvement in the C1/C2/C3 and V1/V2/V3 effects. However, the effects seem somewhat weak. I was hoping to get similar sound that I get from my Roland VR09B - which is really close to the Hammond sound. I'm guessing I am still missing something or the PA1000 is not designed nor intended to provide a really good C1/C2/C3 and V1/V2/V3 effects. Hope you have a great day. Bill

Especially for effects of drawbar sounds it is often important whether and how strong a dry portion (raw signal) is set for it. Therefore you should also experiment with the settings of dry and see if this produces a beneficial effect.

Your attachment shows W/D "Wet" in the master effect that will set balance between the wet and dry signal to WET, but does not mean absolutely wet for soundmachines output.

To control this set effect to "Off" and sound should be muted, but that also should happen if W/D is set to maybe 50:50.

If sound is not muted after effect "Off" the effect maybe would be "weak" - and also does not matter to set FX Send in mixer to max (127).
Maybe this happens when "dry" in menu/styleplay/checkbox dry is selected for the track of this sound.

Instead of using master effect for Organ Vib/Chorus, you can try insert effects for drawbar sounds, since insert effects always include the raw sound of the "direct" signal, to give a sense of presence of sounds source.
kind regards
