Instruments for medieval music

Post by scippie »

I guess the Pa1000 is not the most obvious instrument for creating medieval music, but I am stuck with it so I want to make the most of it.

For a computer game I am in need of composing some medieval music, strings, violins, harps, lutes, ... They should be good quality. For example, I am not very satisfied about the quality of the violin that is installed on the Pa1000 already.

Are there instruments out there that can be put easily on the Pa1000? I don't mind paying for them if they are affordable and good quality.

Note: I just discovered a whole lot of more instruments when going to Sequencer mode, I actually didn't know that. There is a lot of more choice there, but I am still interested in more choice.

If you are referring to the sounds under the Legacy, GM/XG and User tabs, these can also be accessed in Style Play and Song Play modes by double tapping on any of the sounds shown on the right hand side of the screen. They can also be accessed in Sound mode with a single tap on the displayed sound at the top of the screen.

I must admit, it took me a while to figure out how to do this on demand as it were, as sometimes I would see them but didn't quite know how I got there, so had problems replicating the display. I'm in my mid-seventies so that's my excuse. #-o :)

To discover and access instruments of Pa1000 also using the search function is recommended.
Just searching for "violin" will give you 13 instruments to choose from a group - or use "viol" to get 16 instruments.
A search for "string" gives you additional 59 sounds to choose from in this group...

The numerous global setting options - as well as the sound editor and effects - allow you to adapt to medieval music, if these instruments from the unprocessed installed factory/GM and legacy soundbanks do not immediately meet your specifically expectations.

The quality of the Korg sounds is fine - but of course you can use user sounds and sound fonts instead if they are more suitable. Adapting them to specific ideas is at least as time-consuming as editing the Pa1000's internal sounds and has nothing to do with the sound quality, but solely with the application of suitable parameters.

PS: With search function you can use the wildcards “?” (any single character) and “*” (any sequence of characters) to search exactly for strings.
Results of search you can sort by factory/GM/legacy by clicking on "Bank".
kind regards
