Is there a way to trace where AMS is used?

Post by stevewahl »

I realize this is more useful for "how'd they *do* that?" or "How do I stop the current action on JS-Y because I want to use it for something else?" than for actual creation of patches from scratch. But is there a way to take a given modulation source and show where it's being used?

In my mind, this could show up in a pop-up box brought up from the corner menu, have a box to select from a modulation source (like any AMS pop-up menu), and show a list of destinations that use this source.

Yes, I realize that's not there, and that we're not going to get an update. Is the patch structure understood well enough that this could be added to PCGTools or something like it?

I spent time exploring the patches "Crazy Chords SW1RST" and "Love on Train (F3)" last night. It took a long time to figure out what all SW2 (disables pulsing of sound) affects for the first. And for the second, I figured out that LFO3 was being used to re-trigger the step-sequenced sound, because I could change LFO3 and affect the re-triggering, but it took me entirely too long to figure out how it was used to cause a re-trigger. I really needed a "show me where LFO3 is used!" option.

I do recommend exploring how "Love on Train" is put together to anyone who wants to learn to use the step sequencers better. It was enlightening for me, and I'm sure I didn't catch every trick used.

Hi there,

A tool for this is to use the TidyKronos freeware. After doing a Save All on your Kronos, open your PCG file in it and it will give you infos about what is assigned to what for each program. It is a bit tricky at first, but can help to figure out what is going on. As you can see below, there is an option called "View Used AMS/Controller In Selected Program".
