How to use Vocorder on PA5X ?
Hello Friends,
Just curious -- how can I get the vocorder to work against synth chords on the PA5X?
I have been following some of the online tutorial videos and managed to find the harmoniser, and autotune...
When I try to do the vocorder, it just simply overlays my voice and not the rhythm using the synth chords ... I'm probably doing something wrong, but I'm still quite new to this.
Thanks in advance
L.

Chorded with chords drawn from the synth, and the volume and articulation from simply in the mic doing something like "doooooo", if you see what I mean...

i presume 5x has what 4x had ?
this video might help..........
if your hearing vocoda AND your voice together
then maby the DIAL FX isnt set to vocoda ONLY
If the mini dial is set all the way to vocoda fx,but your still hearing
a combination of your voice AND the vocoder
then my conclusion is : ............Its Faulty

Well, there are 4 vocorders in the Synth keyboard set on the PA5X, but they don't really do what I was expecting, which is a shame.
There are tutorials on using the microphone effects, such as harmoniser and autotune, but since I'm not a singer, that's not really of interest to me.
I was really hoping for something relatively easy to use, such as the vocorders on the Kronos and Nautilus, where you hold down a chord, and the voice input controls rhythm and dynamics, for example just using "doo dooooo doo doo dooo" in the microphone does the chord with that rhythm. Another aspect that I was looking for was the vocorder effect used by Alan Parsons in "The Raven".

Here is how to do this on a pa5x.
It works rather differently than on previous models, here is how
- press the settings button
- press the menu button
- press the mic setup tile
- in voice settings section you see a checkbox called mute , set that to on (you don't want to hear your own voice, but only the vocoder effect, which is a different effect than for instance the 'queen' harmony choir mode preset in the vocal section)
Now select one of the vocoder presets in the factory strings category the last entries are the vocoder ones
- Now you have to disable the vocal FX processors of the main page, because you only want to use the vocoder here is how to do it:
- press the main button
- set the view button to the sliders
- on switch 1 you see Mic, this has to be set to ON
- on switch 3 you see the MicFx , set this to OFF to disable your harmony processors and reverbs and delays and your own voice
Now play chords with the upper 1 sound and sing along with that vocoder voice.
You can modify a lot (like the synth carrier, or the routings in your Master FX, or even add talkbox type of effects on top of it, if you are a really advanced user). So this is just a quick setup of the vocoder and you can program it in master FX 2 which is routed to your mic and the FX control 1 section and the upper 1 as the modulator.
9 Buttons to click .................just to hear a Vocoder
Maby a Tutorial showing the correct sequence of procedures
would help.

actually it's only one button click (switch 3),NETWORK1 wrote:9 Buttons to click .................just to hear a Vocoder

but you have to setup your pa5x first to use it in a certain way, and you only have to do this once. The pa5x is NOT a pa3x or pa4x, so you can set it up in any way you want it to behave and this is the way to set it up for singing and vocoder use.
After that you can just use button 3 to switch between standard vocal treatment and the vocoder treatment.
ummmm.................going by your previous post
i counted 9 button clicks ..............very complicated, and confusing.
Imagine going thru that procedure ............. just to get a PIANO ?

at first I thought you were making a joke, but ok, here is the procedure again:NETWORK1 wrote:ummmm.................going by your previous post

ONE TIME ONLY:
Configure your Pa5X mic system
- do steps 1 - 8
DONE !!!
-------------------------------------------------
Now whenever you need the vocoder on the vocoder program, just activate button 3 to switch between the vocoder and your Mic Presets in the style / song mode.
And to make it more clear:
- power off the pa5x
- power on the pa5x
when you need the vocoder, only switch 3 needs to be activated in the vocoder keyboard set mode. NO NEED TO DO STEP 1-8 AGAIN.
And because it's a main button, you can also store this state in the song in your songbook, so just select the style you want to play and select that vocoder keyboard set and save it as a song, Then you don't even have to press button 3, it's done automatically by the pa5x then when you select that song from your songbook -> which means 0 button presses to get a working vocoder with your song.
Ah Thankyou for the explanation QuiRobinez
CONFIGURE
Maybe Somebody at Korg forgot to Finish the VOCODER-CONFIGURING ?
You have to Re-Configure it yourself ...........Manually
And then save it somewhere...................... Very-Interesting
That explains why theres no PA5X-VOCODER TUTORIALS on Youtube.
