Sounds not in Pa5X - that were in Pa4X...?

Post by G »

I know someone on here is going through the painstaking work of making a list of styles that were on the Pa4X - that are not on the Pa5X...

Was wondering if anyone is doing the same for sounds...?

Mainly interested in the Concert Grand (default sound on the Pa4X?)...

And the Bright Piano sound on the Pa4X...

They don't seem to be in the Pa5X manual...

Or were they "renamed" for the Pa5X...?

Hi, unfortunately I no longer have my Pa4x, maybe check the specs and see if the bank and program change no’s exist in both keyboards , (if you don’t get an answer. ) Maybe they’ve just had a name change.
best wishes

Yes, I did before I posted this...

Neither one (Concert Grand nor Bright Piano) is listed in the Pa5X manual under Sounds...

Hi G,
I can’t tell if these are the same piano as I don’t have the Pa4x anymore.

I checked program and bank changes.
The German Grand has the bank and program change that Concert Grand used to have.
121 13 0
The Bright Baby Grand occupies Bright Piano spot.
121 5 1
I can’t tell if just new name , or totally new piano.

Maybe someone with both keyboards will be able to help.😀
best wishes

The only valid way to check if a sound is new in Pa5X , is to explore Sound OSCs of used factory multisamples.

- Pa4X has 1508 factory multisamples with mono and pair stereo as in all older PaSeries.
- Pa5X uses 1314 of above Pa4X multisamples for compatibility with common older sounds and separated L,R channels of
stereo pianos that were included also in Pa4X like Italian Grand and now are in real stereo format and incompatible with Pa4X.

- Briefly , older Pa compatibility stops at 1315 Multisample of Pa5X , so every SOUND that uses 1316 up to 2008 multisamples
in OSC , is a brand new Pa5X SOUND with real stereo multisamples (double polyphony).
- Those new multisamples are in new stereo format and their overall samples size is 4 times bigger than the whole Pa4X ROM library.

In general , all significant Pa4X MS are existing in Pa5X for sure and all Grand Pianos in better format , so almost all Pa4X factory
SOUNDs can be migrated in Pa5X and will work fine if necessary !

Hope this helps

Thank you Antony, I’ll leave that one for G to sort out.
Only piano that interests me , is that amazing sampled one of yours.😀.
Just waiting for the PA5x update, then hopefully I can work out how the sampler works, so I don’t accidentally mess up the piano by accidentally deleting something while I’m learning how to use the sampler.
best wishes

Rikki , edit any factory resource you like , you can't save or delete any factory resources , you can only copy or save them at user positions.

Hi Antony, the piano I ‘m referring too, is your cfx grand. 😁. Top of my wish list.
But, I want to do a bit of drum sampling in regards to my sx900 drums, (not quite sure what yet) and since the sampler isn’t working 100% correctly , I’d sooner wait.
When learning to do something, best if the functions are working correctly in PA5x. I’m likely to be deleting stuff , and redoing, I’d hate to accidentally delete the cfx or corrupt it.
It’s been 10+ years since I last tried sampling, so at the moment haven’t got a clue how it all works.
best wishes

I've got it Rikki and I just explain you the general experiment with resources in Pa5X where sampling engine is working fine for End Users ! :D
Even in case of any WavesArt library , you will always have the PC installer software due to recover any library element in minutes ...
Using factory or WavesArt resources you can play any exploring game you like without the slightest fear ... :D

If I understand correctly, just make a backup to usb drive and then you can easily restore anything from it.

This is the predictable way that all can use for custom only resources !

- Factory resources can't be altered so no reason to save any backup !
- WavesArt resources have their installer software that you can use anytime to restore any lost resources or SET elements ,
that's why I mentioned he has nothing to worry about even without any Pa5X backup ! :D :D

Yep Rikki , but this is not a valid factor to worry about anything that can be deleted or lost from your current custom setup since
as petr14 said , you can always save a backup of all your custom work and will easily recall anything lost from it ...
