TR Rack and Nanopad

Post by dbbillups »

I have an old Korg TR Rack unit that I LOVE. I bought a Korg Nanopad thinking I could assign different pads to send patch changes to the TR Rack so each pad would call up a specific sound, without using a computer. I assumed I could program the Nanopad with a computer, then connect the pad to the rack unit with a USB to MIDI adapter. I guess it's not that simple. I hacked a USB MIDI adapter from a USB B connector to a mini connector to physically plug in the pad to the MIDI adapter, that was just splicing the proper cables. Then I realized the pad wouldn't get power from the adapter. Then I realized I need a USB host. Then I realized the old school MIDI DIN connectors don't have the proper genders. I do have a Midisport MIDI hub, but before I go plugging things in and possibly damage stuff, I'd ask the forum if anyone has done such a configuration. In my mind it is a simple task, but maybe not. I just want a box on the desk with buttons to select specific sounds from the TR Rack. Maybe it's an Arduino project. Any ideas?
