Memorable Names For Keyboard Sets

Post by NativeAngels »

Memorable Names : Keyboard Sets.

When naming keyboard sets for your favourite sounds / combinations your limited to the number of characters (I think it’s 16 correct me if I’m wrong) so you need think about a name that means something to you when you come back to it for future reference.

Some people save there favourite sound combinations as a songbook entry. For me I use the user keyboard set library.

Up until now I use something like what Pete Shaw uses for his keyboard sets

Pad/Pno for lower and upper one

Then if I add other upper sounds

Pad/Pno+Pad+Str

But problem with this you wont know what strings or pad sounds are being used.

You could ask yourself do you need to list the lower sound and go for something like

Grand/Real/Pad

When you create your songbook entries it’s a bit easier when naming the keyboard sets as you build a song you could use something like this

Set1 Grand / Drk

Set2 Add Real Str

You will then know that set 2 is the same a set1 but with added Real Strings

But what happens if you’ve created a keyboard set that has a sound with an effect for example a Grand Piano with Delay and Dark Pad or Strat / Chor + Delay

What system do you use for memorable named keyboard sets?
Gem Wk4, Technics Kn5000, Solton Ms60, Yamaha Psr K1, Korg Pa50sd, Tyros 4, Korg Pa700

I tend to use SONGBOOK for most things.
In SONGBOOK, I make use of the other fields like "Artist" & "Genre" to further identify things.
I only have a handful of special keyboard-sets so it is not a problem for me.

I make keyboard sets as part of Songbook entries. Per song I can name the sets which is most convenient for me. For instance: I have divided Oxygene IV into 4 parts, with each part its own keyboard setting. So I have Part I, Part II, Part III and Part IV.

Other songs in my songbook I name the set itself to the main instrument and when needed additional lower.

I rarely use keyboardsets itself....
