SCSI to SD Card Solution (Relatively New)

I have a Triton-Rack and I recently ordered an external SCSI to SD card device, specifically a

SCSI2SD v5.5 (Pocket Edition)
(approximately $75 U.S.)

I purchased mine from eBay, the seller was Inertial Computing.

The V5.5 version is designed as a simple external drive that plugs directly into the back of your old machine or sampler. No cables required.
Power is provided by the host itself (in this case the Triton-Rack); it supplies terminator power on pin25 of the DB25 socket.

NOTE: This is the SCSI2SD V5.5 version ONLY; I don't know if the other versions or models work!

The SCSI2SD V5.5 device has three interfaces on it:
-- a microSD card slot
-- a USB 2.0 micro-B port
-- a male DB25 SCSI socket

The SCSI2SD V5.5 device simply plugs in to the 25-pin SCSI port
[You must have the Korg EXB-SCSI expansion device installed in your Triton-Rack or Triton Classic].

I installed a SanDisk microSDHC 32GB card, but the Triton Operating System won't allow you to use/see more than 4GB of storage.

I used the following procedure to set this up:
-- format the microSD card on your computer (I used Windows 10)
-- insert the microSD card into the SCSI2SD V5.5 microSD card slot
-- power off your Triton (Rack or Classic)
-- insert the SCSI2SD V5.5 device into the Triton SCSI port
-- power on the Triton
-- go to DISK Mode and find the SCSI drive. The display will say "Unformatted"
-- use the Triton-Rack (or Triton Classic) to format the SCSI drive (I gave mine the Volume Name of "SCSI_DRIVE")
-- the SCSI drive will be formatted at a size of 4GB
-- the SCSI drive is ready for use

Update:

Using the available SCSI2SD V5 Configuration Utility, I was able to create FOUR SCSI drives on my microSD Card.

Each drive is formatted on the Triton-Rack at 4GB, so I now have 16GB of storage on a single microSD Card.

Excuse my ignorance. Can i load the sounds of https://www.synthonia.com/marketplace/k ... ano-detail on this card and read them with my triton classic? Thank you!

Yes, assuming you have at least 64mb is Sample ram installed, which, according to the library you reference, is the minimum ram requirement for that library.

Think of this device as a flash based external hard drive. It can hold anything a SCSI drive could hold.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've just bought a Triton Rack without SCSI card and I'm thiniking to follow your directions to add a SCSI mass storage device

This Chicken Systems guide might be helpful:

Key constraints:
1) The Triton OS can see SCSI Drives with a maximum size of 4GB
2) The SCSI2SD Utility allows you to create a maximum of 4 SCSI IDs on a single microSD card
Therefore, you get a maximum of 4x4GB = 16GB of storage your Triton can access.

Note: Remember that the Triton Rack/Studio has a maximum Sample RAM of 96MB, meaning you can only load 96MB of data from a SCSI drive into the Triton at one time.

I used two utilities:

1) an SD Card Formatter
I used the SD Association SD Memory Card Formatter

*** PROCESS I FOLLOWED ***
1) Starting with a blank microSD card and a microSD card reader, use an SD Card Formatter to format the card so Windows can see it.
At the end of this process, I had a formatted 32GB card that was visible to Windows (Windows Explorer shows a formatted size of 29.7 GB)

2) I removed the formatted microSD card from the reader, and inserted it into the SCSI2SD v5.5 device, and then connected that device to my computer via a microUSB to USB cable.

3) Create SCSI Partitions Using the SCSI2SD Utility
- General Settings Tab (use default)
- Device 1 Tab: click "Enable SCSI Target", set SCSI ID = 0, set SD card start sector to "AUTO", set Device Size = 4GB
- Device 2 Tab: click "Enable SCSI Target", set SCSI ID = 1, set SD card start sector to "AUTO", set Device Size = 4GB
- Device 3 Tab: click "Enable SCSI Target", set SCSI ID = 2, set SD card start sector to "AUTO", set Device Size = 4GB
- Device 4 Tab: click "Enable SCSI Target", set SCSI ID = 3, set SD card start sector to "AUTO", set Device Size = 4GB

At this point, the utility is set to create 4 SCSI partitions on the microSD drive (SCSI IDs 0, 1, 2, and 3).

Select "File", then "Save to Device". A "Save Complete" window appears. Click "Close", then close the SCSI Utility.

At this point, if you stick the microSD card back into a normal reader, it DOES NOT show any SCSI partitions.

4) Insert the microSD card into the SCSI2SD V5.5 microSD card slot
5) power off your Triton (Rack or Classic)
6) Attach the SCSI2SD V5.5 device into the Triton SCSI port
7) Power on the Triton
8 ) Go to DISK Mode and find the SCSI drive (there should be four drives, SCSI IDs 0, 1, 2, and 3). The display will say "Unformatted"
9) Use the Triton-Rack (or Triton Classic) to format the SCSI drive (I gave mine the Volume Name of "SCSI_DRIVE_1")
-- the SCSI drive will be formatted at a size of 4GB
-- the SCSI drive is ready for use
10) Go to the next SCSI ID, and format the second drive (I gave mine the Volume Name of "SCSI_DRIVE_2")
11) Go to the next SCSI ID, and format the second drive (I gave mine the Volume Name of "SCSI_DRIVE_3")
12) Go to the next SCSI ID, and format the second drive (I gave mine the Volume Name of "SCSI_DRIVE_4")

FINAL TASKS

At this point, if you put the microSD card into a SD card reader in Windows 10, you should see 5 Drives:
-- SCSI_Drive 1 (4 GB)
-- SCSI_Drive 2 (4 GB)
-- SCSI_Drive 3 (4 GB)
-- SCSI_Drive 4 (4 GB)
-- Other (the remaining 13 GB).

Wow !

I knew there were floppy to some Jaz drive mods many years ago, and recently found floppy to USB, but I don't want a USB sticking out, something easily gets damaged so I searched for floppy to SD and later SCSI to SD and here I am again, almost 20 years since I registered!

My Triton-Rack has been at the attic for 15 years atleast, I brought down the small module Roland JV-1010 few days ago but 20 minutes ago I fetched my Rack.

Opened it, saw the 3x32MB ram sticks, but wth is that card at the end?
LOL, turns out I have EXB-PCM01 installed! That is the Pianos/Classic Keyboards expansion, I don't remember anything about having this! What an addition!

I used a SCSI HD back in the days, but it was too much hustle IMO... I have even thrown it away like 15 years ago, but ofcourse kept the RAM and SCSI interface.

Now I'm gonna buy that SCSI to SDHC adapter and fiddle with samples :) There are interesting tiny sounds on the JV-1010 that are nice in their pads, will capture those to start with.

Speed wise, I assume a SDHC is not a bottle-neck (vs old SCSI HDs from early 2000s), while a mod thru floppy perhaps would be?

There are cheaper 32GB SDHC with ~100-120MB/s read capacity, specs say nothing about write speed. The more expensive is 100MB/s read, 90MB/s write. Swedish money $7 vs $11 perhaps, suggestion on what to buy?

Edit: Googled SanDisk microSDHC 32GB and found SanDisk Ultra microSDHC Class 10 UHS-I U1 A1 --- Read 98MB/s, Write 32GB/s (U1 only guarantees 10MB/s write, but perhaps i's normal speel is 32MB/s) - found out that U1 is a guaranteed lowest writing speed, U1 = 10MB/s, U3 = 30MB/s
These is also a Video Speed Class, it guarantees write speed the in a similar way, V90 = U9 = minimum 90MB/s write speed

Why 5 partitions/drives? Is it possible to get 7x4GB (28GB) + rest?
