Jordan Rudess keyboard tour

Post by psionic311 »

Jordan has a mechanical keyboard stand that lets him rotate his Kronos 88 around so the audience can see.

I am definitely interested in the Line 6 Helix

My Kronos FX need more muscle and variety. Have been thinking of a solution and possibly this hardware is it

I've been looking at various hardware filter options to try to give my rig more analog warmth. But besides things like analog filters, guitar FX pedals, and multi-FX boxes, using an all-in-one box like a Line 6 pedal actually offers a lot:

- favorite guitar FX like envelopes, distortion types
- focus on analog quality over multiple generations of development
- more authentic amp and cab sims
- MIDI control, so you can use program changes to match Kronos programs

Guitar[using Kronos] realism is a big deal for me. I have thought the FX and amp models in Kronos are lacking , as E guitars are a priority for my recording.

So my application is not to keep up with a loud progressive rock band.

Just the same, $1300 Helix Rack might give me more tone, more variety.

With all instruments , not just E guitars and Hammonds.

I suppose I can return it , if it doesn't fit my recording.

Anybody know which KK2 AP Jordan uses? I know he has one that he designed for Korg.

I've been recording with Fractal Axe FX2 for years. Surprised JR not using the new Axe FX3. Guess he's getting paid. There's a ton of FX in these boxes - much more than what's in the synths. The new blue Kronos is very cool and I wish he showed the computers too. Missed them on the current tour they actually sold out this time.

Do you use tube emulations to try to warm up the Kronos and Jupiter 80? If so, does it bring their sound closer to your Moog?

JR also uses the Radial Space Heater for similar purposes. I'm thinking an ART tube preamp used between my mixer and speakers could do the same for my Kronos and Integra.

Definitely! Seems to have the same paint pattern as the “splash of red” Kronos SE. I understood it to be a custom paint job, not available for public consumption.

No I use Axe FX to decimate the sound. EPs and hammonds thru marshall stacks, bass patches thru Mesa Boogie dual rectifiers. All processed in parallel like you would a bass guitar. There are over 200 amps and unlimited number of speaker cabs you can use (impulse responses).

Awesome. Sounds like you can get some downright mean sounds with that setup...

Yeah, I really liked that piano/orchestra/strings patch he played in the video. Would love to know the details on that one.

Do you guys have any videos of your own set ups with these digital/analog pedals? I'm sooooo interested now!

I'd be very curious to know how people incorporate things like the Helix or Axe Fx into a Kronos rig, since the Kronos already has such a robust effects suite.

what Kronos has is robust. Its not just enough if you want various guitar amp models. E guitars are big deal for my originals.

E guitars have about +200 different amp sounds. This variety has grown over the past 50 years.

Thats an area where Kronos falls short. Not surprising, Kronos can't be all things for all people.
