Integration of nanoPAD2 or nanoKEY2 possible?

Post by decreebass »

I know these just plug and play with the Kronos, but does anyone use these with their Kross? I would love the extra octave of the nanoKEY2, but I don't know about needing to buy extra gear just to interface it.

If I do need extra interface gear, what's the simplest?

I guess, what's the easiest way to integrate the nanoKEY2 with my Kross2? Thanks!

Hi,

It is not plug and play with the Kross.

NanoPad2 and NanoKey2 are USB MIDI controller, intended to be connected to computers to control soft synths. As the Kronos is in fact an embedded PC, it can handle it. The Kross can't. It has no USB Host interface on board.

How to connect them:
* Use a PC in between them + the right software. This is a complex setup and probably suffers from latency
* Get a MIDI USB Host. E.g. the Kenton Midi USB Host. I've no experience with it. There is always the risk factor that the USB Host does not recognize the Nano devices.
* Not, but get another small controller which has the plain old MIDI DIN OUT connector (and full keys?). Works always.

Have fun.

I have a Kenton usb midi host, and works flawlessly with usb controllers that are class compliant. I use a wireless keytar (alesis vortex wireless v1) without any issues. That Kenton it's a bit pricey but a solid aluminium reliable piece of gear, it powers from micro usb 5v and includes an universal switching transformer. It is very light also and I have it tightly attached to the back of my microStation:

Noted; thanks guys! Yeah, I figured I'd have to get some sort of interface or a controller with the DIN output. I appreciate the comments!
