Making a lead sound

Post by jeremykeys »

I'm trying to get a sound that is similar to this one.

Now Derek Sherinian is an absolute master when it comes to screaming lead synth sounds. I also know that he runs his lead sounds through guitar distortion pedals and guitar amplifiers.
What I'm trying to get on my KK is something a little brighter. I can get distortion from the onboard effects and yes, I know it won't sound exactly the same. I'm okay with that.
My first question is where do I go to make the sound monophonic? I've looked in the manual but I'm not finding anything.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

Well I'm happy to report that my sound is coming along albeit slowly. I don't think I'll be able to get the level of distortion that Derek is getting but then he also runs his Nord through guitar distortion pedals and I'm not.
Got the monophonic problem solved. I just need to keep fooling around with it.

Jeremy,

You should be able to get that sound with KK, or something really close.

And even if you don't, you'll have a ball trying!

Good luck. Post your final result!

Thanks, Joe! I can't seem to get the distortion that I want but I'm having fun fooling around with the KK!
I'm going to try running through the different filters to see what happens next.
