Delete custom voice to free up ram

Post by Brian007 »

Hi,

If I delete a custom voice ( a voice that loaded samples in to ram ) will it automatically delete the sample from ram thus freeing up memory in the ram ?
if it does not how to I go about freeing up some memory in ram

No, when deleting User sounds (PCG) some data from its construction (Multisample, Sample = KMP, PCM) still are stored.
That is because a PCG consists of at least of one multisample (KMP) - when deleting the PCG its multisamples (KMP) are not automatically deleted because it could be used by other PCGs. Each KMP consists of at least one sample (PCM) - when deleting a KMP its samples (PCM) are not deleted automatically, because these could be used by other KMPs.

Now to delete all the unassigned samples of Pa100 access the dialog "Delete Sample", select the option "Not assigned to any Multisample/Drumkit" and touch OK to free up memory.
There is also a dialog "Deleting multisamples" to delete multisamples individually or to select the checkbox "Delete Unassigned Samples" to delete all the samples left free after deleting the multisample, and not used by other multisamples.
kind regards

Its probably similar to the Pa3x. In Sound Mode press Record button, choose top right drop down menu, delete....

Every 2-3 years I publish this guide that will help you with cleaning your PaSeries setup , So ...
If you have loaded a SET with samples that you do not need but you don't really know what multisamples (MS) or drumkit
samples or time-sliced samples you must delete then here is a fine method to delete unused sample remnants that are
wasting your Ram space without exploring samples & MS.
As First make a MyCurrentSet.SET ALL backup of your existing SET in case of failure !

- Explore all in your current Setup , Styles KBD SET (STS) and PAD , find all unused SOUNDS & DKs from all banks and just delete
them from all (6) SOUND & DK Banks.
Older model users go to MEDIA/ERASE/SYS/SOUNDS/ for deleting your User resources.
- After deleting those save YourCleared.SET in "ALL" format , this will save all samples used & unused.
- Go to SOUND/Record (button)/sample edit/upper screen scroll down menu , select "Delete" and choose
"All Samples & Multisamples" and delete them.
- Go to MEDIA/LOAD/ open saved YourCleared.SET , select SOUND and load the whole folder , this will last
many minutes , then select and load PAD folder for any case.
- Done ... now your SET contains only the samples of valid SOUND & DK and not a single junk sample.
- Explore back if all resources are working properly (especially custom Styles) and then permanently save your new SET.

- If you had manually created PADs with single loaded samples (f.e. wav files) then you might have to re-create those PADs
loading single samples again !
- If you had forgotten some sound resources that are active in styles , like DKs & time-sliced SOUNDs then start again
from the beginning !

Hope this helps

Thank you Antony for this but I'm still at a loss to fully understand your instructions.

"..find all used SOUNDS & DKs from all banks and just delete
them from all (6) SOUND & DK Banks. "
Is this done via Media, Erase, Sys... or some other way?

and
" - Go to MEDIA/LOAD/ open saved YourCleared.SET , select SOUND and load the whole folder"
I thought our YourCleared.Set didn't have any sound names so how would it load?

If you could add instructions (like what buttons to press) it would be great for dummies like me! Many thanks.

John , one wrong word was essential there "unused" but it was late at night ... :D
Read instructions again (mainly for Pa1000).
Deleting user resources is one click way after Pa4X OS !
